Role Purpose:
The Principal Primary Design Engineer will spearhead the HV Primary Engineering design delivery for electrical substation projects up to 400kV. This role involves leading a team of Design Engineers and assisting the Design Delivery Managers in the daily operations of the engineering and technician teams. The position also encompasses planning and procurement responsibilities for substation project delivery.

Key Accountabilities:
- Lead the Design team to meet customer specifications, ensuring compliance with National/International Standards and legislation.
- Approve HV plant design deliverables, including single line diagrams, layout drawings, and earthing design calculations.
- Ensure designs adhere to Health & Safety Procedures and CDM regulations.
- Oversee the review and approval process for models and drawings, incorporating BIM best practices.
- Guide the engineering team in adopting industry advancements and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental Procedures.
- Deliver engineering designs within programme, quality, and budget constraints.
- Approve designs and manage inter-disciplinary design gaps.
- Support the Design Delivery Manager in departmental operations and team development.

Design Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and customer requirements.
- Undertake AIS and GIS substation design up to 400kV.
- Approve substation design deliverables and engage with suppliers for offer validation.
- Perform roles such as Contractor Design Approval Engineer and Principal Designer representative.

Planning Responsibilities:
- Coordinate workload and priorities within the Primary Plant Team.
- Prepare and review Design and Engineering Management Plans.
- Liaise with Design Engineers, Project Managers, and other departments to meet project requirements.

Commercial/Contract Responsibilities:
- Report contract scope variations and manage early warnings on projects.
- Specify and quantify equipment/materials for site requirements.

Candidate Requirements:
- Education & Qualifications: Graduate in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, Chartered Engineer or working towards, Member of IET (MIET).
- Experience: Over 10 years in a Design Office environment, experience as a senior HV Substation Primary Plant Design Engineer, familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, and knowledge of BIM 360.
- Personal Skills: Strong leadership, articulate communication, innovative problem-solving, adaptability, and self-motivation.
