As EPM you lead all the electrical engineering activities (Onshore/offshore and SCADA) to support the projects in Scotland and be responsible for managing the technical and logistical aspects of the projects’ electrical system design definition. You will ensure effective coordination with the team, partners and suppliers. You will report to the Head of Engineering and coordinate with Project Managers, and corporate Sr. Director of Grid Connection & Electrical Works as well as the Head of Electrical Design, updating them on a regular basis regarding the latest developments of the work package including technical scope, suppliers and interfaces. You will work in close cooperation with other package managers and internal and external stakeholders. Key Accountabilities The position is expected to span the entire project development duration from concept design through to installation and commissioning of assets. Overall responsibility for the concept, design and delivery of the electrical infrastructure for the UK floating offshore windfarms. It includes: Control, SCADA and Communications Simulation, Studies and Special Equipment (STATCOMS...etc.) Grid Integration Wind Farm control strategies definition. Oversee the entire electrical system design covering the offshore inter-array system, export transmission system and onshore infrastructure. Ensure safety by design in electrical engineering decisions, along with general H&S management to the team. Manage external engineering consultants to deliver specific electrical engineering work. From scope preparation, contracting and final delivery review. Develop, review, update, modify and approve electrical design plans of the offshore wind farms. Communication and coordination with other engineering and non-engineering team leaders. Ensure electrical work is delivered on time, on budget with zero errors. Establish relationships with suppliers and other professionals. Prepare, drive and manage the tendering processes related to the offshore cable systems, electrical equipment, and offshore/onshore substation design. Participate in the research and analysis of electrical equipment design proposals. Develop specifications for the required electrical equipment and technical documentation, participating during all the procurement process. Provide input to the definition of the required equipment at the offshore/onshore substation and validate design decisions. Collaborate in the definition of the wind farm layout and analysis of the interconnection solutions. Direct the field operations of the electrical system. Perform detailed engineering review of documentation describing equipment design, and installation and operation procedures. Liaison with the rest of project managers to ensure projects are completed to specifications. Participate in consultations with BEIS, Ofgem, CES, NGESO or other stakeholders when required by the Grid Manager. Establish the electrical risk matrix. Continuously monitor and manage associated risks in relation to e.g. potential changes in the design, consenting, project programme. Participate in technical clarification meetings with other managers and the project board. Provide technical support to commercial discussions for the other packages (turbine, foundations etc) Contribute to the drafting and negotiation of early works engineering contracts, if required. Events and real measurements analysis. Required Chartered electrical engineer with degree qualification in electrical engineering or equivalent. Proven track record in leading electrical engineering teams. Significant experience of delivering Renewable Energy projects especially offshore wind. Significant HV Electrical experience, including power plant, grid connection, earthing, protection, switchgear, power-electronics, power systems design and minimum 3 years of experience in the offshore wind industry. Current and demonstrable electrical design calculation and specification capabilities. Experience with the most common electrical simulation tools: DIgSILENT/Power Factory, PSCAD, PSS®E…etc. As a person you are pro-active and structured with strong analytical skills and a quality-oriented approach to your tasks Excellent IT skills particularly MS Excel/Word/Project and PowerPoint. Willingness to travel both in the UK and globally. Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment. Ability to communicate clearly & concisely both verbally & written English and ability to explain technical issues to non-engineers. Wind Farm Main Equipment’s knowledge: Switchgear, cables, lines, transformers, filters, surge arresters, instrument transformers and reactive compensation equipment at voltage levels up to 400kV. Strong background regarding the required input data from the main equipment (power transformers, cables, GIS…etc.) needed to develop the wind farm electrical design. Extensive knowledge and review capabilities related to the offshore wind farms electrical system studies i.e.: Static Studies: Load Flows, Short-Circuit, Reactive Power Compensation, Power Quality RMS Studies: Dynamic Performance (Grid Code Requirements), Stability analysis, Fault Right Through. Transients Studies: cables and power transformers energizations, Transients Recovery Voltages, Insulation Coordination, resonances, faults, cables sheaths sizing, earthing…etc. Experience dealing with the following manufacturers regarding to specific features, requirements, and influence of this active equipment in the final offshore wind farm electrical design: Wind Turbine Generators – Modelling and Simulations STATCOMS, SVCs…etc – Modelling and Simulations Synchronous Condensers – Modelling and Simulations Industry design and construction standards, practices and specifications including system earthing.
