The Community Lead plays a pivotal role in fostering robust and dynamic relationships between our client’s company and the communities we serve. This position demands a proactive, strategic, and compassionate approach to community engagement, with a strong emphasis on transparent communication, financial stewardship, and the development of innovative funding and ownership models. The Community Lead ensures their community projects are not only well-communicated internally and externally but are also financially sustainable and align with their organisation's values and goals.
 
Responsibilities
  • Support the drafting and refinement of communications related to community-focused projects, ensuring clarity, engagement, and alignment with their organisation's goals, including supporting the preparation of internal briefing packs, updating website content, and creating promotional materials.
  • Oversee community support budgets for individual projects and general company sponsorship opportunities, ensuring financial efficiency and effectiveness, enabling their projects to maximize their impact within the communities we serve.
  • Organise and manage quarterly funding panels, including the preparation of internal briefing documents with funding recommendations, ensuring that funding allocation is strategic, transparent, and supports projects with the highest potential for community impact.
  • Support the development and implementation of Community Investment Funds, Initial Investment Funds, and Shared Ownership Models to foster community empowerment, financial sustainability, and a sense of ownership over community projects.
  • Coordinate and oversee community events, including meetings and drop-in sessions, to engage with community members, gather feedback, and build strong relationships to ensure their projects are community-driven and reflect the needs and aspirations of the communities we work with.
  • Act as the primary liaison between their company and the communities across all projects which involves ensuring that communities are continuously engaged, informed, and heard, thereby building trust and fostering long-term relationships
  • Support discussions around Community Investment Funds, Initial Investment Funds, and Shared Ownership Models, which involves advocating for innovative funding and ownership structures that benefit both the community and the company.
  • Support engagement efforts with community-based organisations such as Foundation Scotland, Local Energy Scotland, and Community Development Trusts in order to build strategic partnerships, leverage support, and enhance the impact of their community projects.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the External and Corporate Affairs Team to ensure consistency and effectiveness in the preparation and distribution of briefing documents, presentations, and other promotional materials.
 
Technical Competencies
  • Project Management- Skilled in planning, executing, and finalizing projects according to strict deadlines and within budget, including acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants.
  • Financial Management- Understanding of financial forecasting, and financial reporting, understanding the principles of financial stewardship and accountability, ensuring resources are used effectively to support community projects.
  • Event Planning and Coordination- Demonstrates experience in planning, organising, and executing successful events and meetings, from conceptualisation to evaluation.
  • Knowledge of Community Development Principles- Kowledge of community development strategies, principles, and practices, familiarity with concepts of shared ownership, investment funds, and social empowerment initiatives.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Proven experience in community management, project management, or a related role
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate events and meetings
  • Experience working with community-based organisations and understanding of community investment strategies
  • Understanding of budget management, funding mechanisms, and financial reporting
