Senior Project Manager – Due Diligence (Renewable Energy)

Purpose of Role
Responsible for managing complex due diligence assignments for onshore wind, solar PV, and/or battery energy storage systems (BESS) from bid stage through to final deliverables. Acts as the key liaison with financial institutions, investors, and legal teams to ensure technical advice is bankable, commercially sound, and aligned with project finance principles. Provides oversight across construction, acquisition, and operational phases.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-disciplinary technical due diligence (DD) assignments, coordinating internal and external subject matter experts.

  • Conduct and oversee contract reviews covering EPC, O&M, and asset management agreements, identifying and explaining key technical and commercial risks.

  • Interface with financing parties, investors, and developers to clarify positions and support negotiation of risk allocations.

  • Provide input to financial models, stress testing key assumptions and technical parameters.

  • Prepare and present lender-style technical due diligence reports and summaries.

  • Support monitoring activities during construction and acquisitions, ensuring contractual compliance and timely issue resolution.

  • Carry out operational performance monitoring, interpreting plant data to identify performance gaps or issues.

  • Mentor and support junior team members involved in project delivery.


Detailed Duties

Technical Due Diligence:

  • Delivery of technical due diligence for renewable energy assets, including wind, solar PV, and BESS.

  • Authoring and quality assurance of reports, working in a collaborative, solutions-focused team environment.

  • Coordinating contributions from internal technical specialists.

  • Assessing capital expenditure and operational cost assumptions.

  • Reviewing and assessing technical and commercial aspects of contracts such as EPC, turbine supply, module supply, BESS supply, O&M, and power purchase agreements (PPAs).

Technology Tendering and Negotiation:

  • Supporting technology selection and tender evaluation for turbines, PV modules/inverters, and storage systems.

  • Participation in manufacturer or supplier site visits.

  • Contributing to negotiations on technical and commercial matters for major project contracts.

Site Inspections:

  • Conducting site visits for renewable energy assets.

  • Performing equipment inspections (e.g., turbines, inverters, battery units).

  • Preparing inspection reports and quality assuring outputs.

  • Certifying payments during construction phases.

  • Monitoring construction progress on behalf of lenders and investors.

General:

  • Acting as an internal knowledge resource for specific technical subject areas.

Project Management:

  • Managing consultancy assignments, including client communication, programme delivery, and budget adherence.

  • Coordinating the work of internal technical experts across various disciplines.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 7 years' experience in the renewable energy sector, ideally within consultancy, development, or EPC contexts.

  • Demonstrable track record in delivering lender and acquisition technical due diligence.

  • Strong commercial understanding, particularly of EPC and O&M contract structures.

  • Experience in reviewing and interpreting financial models in the context of technical inputs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders under time-sensitive, commercially-driven conditions.

  • Familiarity with operational monitoring and performance improvement of renewable assets.

  • Deep expertise in at least one of the following: wind energy, solar PV, or BESS; with a working understanding of the others.
