Cable Engineer
 
Location: Melbourne / Hobart
 
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Package Manager with the following engineering tasks (for the DC cable connection)
  • Interface with geotechnical surveys, climate, and other studies to inform the technical specifications
  • Inputs in the procurement process, i.e. (pre)qualification requirements, tender assessment criteria, contracts and other documentation required for the request for tender
  • Provision of DC cable related information required for the permit application process
  • Work with the community engagement and environment teams to evaluate proposed changes to the cable route
  • Technical interface with DC cable suppliers, before and during the tender process
  • All other DC cable related interfaces
  • Guide a team of experts and consultants undertaking the above tasks
  • Organise, lead and document meetings for the above tasks
  • Review and synthesise of large amounts of complex information, identify and action key issues/challenges
  • Communicate highly technical issues and concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure collaboration with the wider team for the work stream activities and deliverables
  • Support our Client’s safety programs and strategies
  • Any other duty or task as reasonably and lawfully directed by our Client
 
Requirements
  • Demonstrate the Core Capabilities and Client behaviours, which are central to all positions
  • Tertiary qualifications in either Electrical Engineering; or significant work experience in a similar role
  • Have relevant utility/industry experience, skills and knowledge in the design, construction, and commissioning of HV DC cable connections, both onshore and offshore, or (in absence of this) HV AC cable connections
  • Knowledge of Australian Standards, National Electricity Rules (NER) and the Australian HV transmission systems in general
  • Proven ability to proactively identify, manage and resolve conflict and issues on complex and/or high-profile projects, while working in a politically sensitive environment
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of large complex capital projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all audiences and levels
  • Ability to build rapport and trust-based relationships, providing feedback, and driving results through people
  • Drive and passion to succeed in a challenging project environment
  • Ability to manage concurrent and conflicting priorities
  • A high level of business acumen
  • Able to demonstrate the capacity to perform the inherent requirements of the role
