Our client is seeking a Director of Energy Markets and Origination for their global battery storage business. In this pivotal role, you will be accountable to CTO for leading the TMT view on energy markets, origination and negotiation of revenue opportunities, battery technology selection and trading in region and support relevant team members in these activities. Successful candidate would be able to own the 5-to-10-year view of how the company layers no derivatives to their assets / portfolio to achieve a desired level of contracting shape. In this role you will need to set the strategy and risk framework then execute on that. This role offers flexibility and ideally in Melbourne or Sydney and will be reporting to the Chief Technology Officer. Key Responsibilities Accountability for origination, negotiation and management of commercial revenue offtakes and swap/derivative contracts as well as government and network service contracts Driving and or providing expertise on the assessment of trading outcomes and asset performance to continually improve and adjust trading strategies and protocols to maximise asset and portfolio objectives Accountable in region for providing guidance on, and ensuring best in market positions on trading service contracts, LTSA, supply agreements, warranties and guarantees etc Working with the business to define the risk framework / appetite for trading products Accountable for defining hedging strategy, both at asset level and portfolio level Developing and managing regional BESS OEM relationships and providing technology expertise and input in region alongside other key technology leaders. Provide strategic input and guidance on new market entry Present to Investment Committee on relevant aspects of key projects. Support presentation to Board as required by the Executive Management Team Represent the business on asset-specific Risk and Trading Committees to drive best-for asset outcomes and learnings Contribute to regional Technology, Market and Trading (TMT), resourcing, priorities, and business strategy Guidance, input and prioritisation of analytics and quantitative capabilities, tools and activities Management, mentoring, training, and upskilling of technical, commercial, and analytical team Regular travel for in person meetings and working with the Global TMT team. Regular travel for opportunities and to meet partners / stakeholders Reporting Prepare reporting for the company board, asset-specific boards, project lenders, and other stakeholders. Reporting on portfolio position / trading book with respect to portfolio hedging strategy Lead ongoing progress meetings and internal meetings. Provide opportunity briefings and project updates on a regular basis to relevant stakeholders. Competencies of the role Experience with energy asset investment, revenue contracting and trading across renewable and/or non-renewable assets. Experience in originating and negotiating commercial agreements and revenue contracts for energy assets, preferably BESS. A level of technical knowledge across generation assets, ideally BESS. Experience in managing a team, senior stakeholders, and reporting. Well-developed commercial and contract management business acumen.
