Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Protection Engineer, to lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of protection and control systems across the network. This pivotal role ensures the safety, reliability, and performance of the electrical infrastructure, supporting both operational excellence and innovation in smart grid technologies.

Key Responsibilities

- Act as the primary contact for all protection and control engineering design matters within the network.
- Manage all aspects of design and specification for protection schemes, ensuring correct operation in liaison with customer and transmission schemes.
- Lead the development and commissioning of protection relays, automation systems, and interlocking logic.
- Perform protection coordination studies and fault level analysis.
- Support the creation and adherence to engineering procedures and policies, ensuring high and consistent design standards.
- Attend working groups such as the ENA as a protection authority, supporting network development.
- Ensure compliance with NESO grid code, ENA, Distribution code, and other applicable standards.
- Collaborate with System Network Design to support policy changes and the integration of protection systems with control and monitoring platforms.
- Drive improvement and support reporting to promote business objectives.
- Proactively meet programme deadlines, coordinating with other departments as required.
- Develop positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including DNOs, TOs, NESO, and customers.

What We Seek

- A degree in electrical engineering or relevant experience.
- Proven track record in leading protection and control design from concept to delivery, preferably in a regulated network.
- Strong knowledge of protection relays and communication protocols.
- Proficiency in protection coordination tools.
- Experience with regulated engineering standards such as ENA, Distribution Code, and Grid Code.
- Excellent communication and engagement skills.
- High standard of written and oral English.
- Organised, with the ability to manage multiple engineering tasks across different projects.
- Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary project team environment.
