Head of HSE - Onshore Renewable Energy

Our client is seeking a Head of HSE to lead Health, Safety, and Environment strategy across onshore renewable energy projects. This role will play a pivotal part in shaping a sustainable and safe working culture while ensuring compliance with international standards and regulatory frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an HSE strategy aligned with business and sustainability objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 45001 and applicable European and international HSE regulations.
  • Lead risk identification, assessment, and mitigation throughout all project phases, from design to decommissioning.
  • Oversee incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through training, leadership engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as the primary HSE contact for regulatory authorities, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Define and monitor HSE KPIs, conduct audits, and report performance to senior leadership.
  • Manage emergency preparedness, including the creation and testing of crisis response plans.

Candidate Profile:

  • Degree qualified in Occupational Health & Safety or a related technical or scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive HSE experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in international organisations within the energy, renewables, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of European HSE legislation, ISO standards (particularly ISO 45001), and industry best practice.
  • Formal HSE qualification such as NEBOSH, CMIOSH, IOSH, NCRQ, or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong leadership with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Fluent in English with proficiency in IT systems and reporting tools.
  • Hands-on experience in risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance audits.
  • Knowledge of regional labour laws, occupational safety regulations, and emergency response procedures.
