Fisheries Liaison - Offshore Wind

Role Lead communication between Client and fishing community representatives to ensure timely distribution of information between groups and promote transparent and frequent information sharing. Develop & Execute plans for external engagement and direct communication with fishermen, fishing communities and related fishing businesses including extensive regional travel with a focus on: gathering fishing-related inputs and information focused on strategies and best management practices for Client that support the coexistence of advancing offshore wind project development and fishing co-existence.; ensuring timely distribution of information between groups and promote transparent and frequent information sharing. develop efforts to include the fishing community in the Clients on-water activities. Develop strategies and creative solutions to mitigate potential adverse project construction and operations impacts given fisheries-related stakeholder input and knowledge of local fisheries. Identify, attend and represent Client at open houses, conferences, trade shows, and other events that will enhance the project’s dialogue with mariner and fishing communities. Report to the NYC project office and travel regularly across New York, New Jersey, and other states to engage with the fishing community and related stakeholders. Maintain all records of engagement, meetings, and other events for reporting to state and federal authorities. Required Demonstrated experience, minimum 10 years preferred but 5+ years considered, in issues related to commercial and recreational fishing and a deep understanding of commercial fishing methods, gear, industry challenges, and regulatory management processes. , or Bachelor’s degree in fisheries management/science, biology, marine science/oceanography, or marine environment/conservation preferred but not necessary if candidate can demonstrate equitable fishing and/or fisheries management experience. Ability to communicate effectively with industry representatives and fishing groups, including writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills that resonate with audiences of different backgrounds; the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in speech and in writing. Ability to review regulations, scientific studies, formal research, and other fisheries materials to inform fishing related outreach, strategies, planning, and answer questions about fisheries interactions. Must have experience in fishing industry in NJ and NY with NJ experience prioritized Knowledge and/or experience with state and federal rules and regulations relating to marine resources and fisheries management. Knowledge and/or experience with the development of offshore wind projects preferred. Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain relationships with key stakeholder groups. Ability to communicate effectively with industry representatives and fishing groups, including writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills that resonate with audiences of different backgrounds; the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in speech and in writing. Strong project management skills with the ability to work independently, multi-task, set priorities, and meet deadlines. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite especially Outlook, MS Word, PowerPoint preferred. Location NYC – 3 days in NYC office/2 days remote Duration Min 12 month contract
