Project Development Manager - Battery Storage
 
Location: Berlin, Germany
 
Our client is looking for a Project Development Manager in Battery Storage to play a pivotal role within the expanding BESS team. Responsible for all pre-development activities and new market assessments, they will guide towards the most promising projects in Poland, Hungary, and emerging markets. The primary focus of the Development Manager will be on identifying viable standalone BESS projects, while also providing support for re-permitting processes to enable co-location opportunities. They will report directly to the Head of BESS and will be supported by analysts, developers, and engineers.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Working closely with Head of BESS to define strategy and implement and grow the BESS division with the various businesses.
  • Sourcing potential BESS project opportunities in Poland, Hungary and emerging markets.
  • Identifying opportunities for BESS development based on analysis, regulatory trends, and co-location opportunities within.
  • Conducting feasibility studies and technical assessments to evaluate the viability of potential energy storage projects, considering factors such as site suitability, grid integration, economics, and permitting requirements.
  • Working directly with and Spectris Engineering and third-party contractors to ensure BESS projects are on time, within budget, and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research in collaboration with BESS analyst to identify and assess potential BESS projects in new markets.
 
Qualifications
 
  • 5 + years of work experience in BESS or Solar development projects.
  • In depth knowledge of development considerations for BESS assets including electrical connection requirements, spacing, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent knowledge in the technical aspects of energy systems and solar + BESS co-location.
  • A clear understanding of European energy markets and ancillary services.
  • Comfortable adapting and appraising BESS financial models
  • A good understanding of arbitrage markets and ancillary service opportunities for BESS assets in Poland.
  • Motivated, pro-active person, that is willing to lead and take on further responsibilities as the BESS team grows.
  • Ability and proven experience to develop and initiate new business units and deploy projects in new markets.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with MS Office (advanced financial modelling with Excel is advantageous)
  • Understanding of BESS modelling software (Homer, StorageVET)
