Electrical Systems Manager
 
Location: Boston, MA
 
Our client is looking for a Electrical Systems Manager (ES) who has deep and comprehensive knowledge of and experience with onshore and offshore electrical low, medium & high voltage equipment. The ESM will ensure timely input into FEED for all contracts for the electrical scope and ensure this is optimized and working as one system throughout the wind farm (on- and offshore substation, onshore export cable route, inter-array cabling, wind turbine generators). The electrical systems lead is accountable for ensuring the entire the Project electrical system from WTG to grid connection is fully functional & optimized for all of the different components, systems and parts of the wind farm. This will require interface management with a number of stakeholders, including ISO’s, interconnecting utility, external contractors and project packages.
 
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the project electrical design and installation and preparation of technical requirements.
  • Define and optimize the windfarm electrical system: Wind Turbine Generators, Inter-array cables, offshore substation, export cables, onshore substation, grid connection.
  • Responsible for fulfilling applicable technical grid code requirements to ensure that the wind farm can be connected to the grid.
  • Actively challenge and interpret grid requirements.
  • Working with external consultants, suppliers and contractors to conduct detailed engineering/studies where necessary.
  • Plan and coordinate electrical engineering scopes as required to support, the pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed design review of the project.
  • Manage external consultants, suppliers and contractors to conduct detailed engineering studies during pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed design phases.
  • Provide input to discussions with industry partners that may impact the overall electrical performance of the offshore wind farm.
  • Identify and highlight possibilities for improvements and actively pursue & implement them after alignment with the other project work packages.
  • Ensure HSE is proactively managed with a focus on future design and activities and risk over the full lifecycle.
  • Ensure risks and design decisions are managed effectively, ensuring project risks within the delivery & technical scope are assessed, managed and mitigated (and documented in risk register).
  • Responsible for the development of the Project electrical system testing and commissioning and energization plan.
  • Accountable for optimization and integration of a $1-1.5Bln electrical scope on an offshore wind power generation project.
  • Work across multiple packages, design and execution contracts, transmission system operator and ISO to deliver a compliant and integrated electrical system from the WTGs to the Point of Interconnection.
  • Reporting to the Technical/Delivery Director

 
 
Requirements  

  • Strong personal leadership in HSSE and Quality
  • Sc or higher in Electrical Engineering. Skill in the areas of power system design and analysis, power electronics design and analysis, equipment selection and protection.
  • Very good technical knowledge and experience in design, modelling, and simulation (e.g. steady-state load flow/short circuit, RMS and EMT) of electrical power systems.
  • The candidate has extensive knowledge of electrical power transmission systems with proven track record of transmission system planning, transient dynamic analysis, high voltage engineering/insulation coordination, protection, and control coordination, preferably including offshore.
  • Experience delivering large scale power utility projects, electrical power transmission systems, preferably including offshore Experience with HVDC technology and its application for connecting offshore wind farm is a plus.
  • 10+ years experience with electrical systems and grid connection of power plants, preferably in the US
  • Highly motivated, ability to work well with others and be a good team player.
  • Facilitator skills in opportunity framing and/or competitive scoping is a plus.
  • Knowledge of risk evaluation and statistical modelling a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Office 365; MS Project application, Visio, MS Access, Word, Excel,SharePoint and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of electrical specialist software such as PSS/E,
  • Digsilent/powerfactory, EMTP/ATP, EMTP-RV, EMTDC/PSCAD, PSLF, ETAP is a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of industrial leading real-time platform (such as RTDS, OPAL-RT etc) and working knowledge with vendor specific controller replicas (e.g. wind turbine OEM controller replica, HVDC controller replica etc) is a plus.
  • Broad knowledge of the abilities of US and European contractors in offshore wind and utilities.
  • Knowledge and Experience with US grid connection requirements, procedures, documentation, laws and regulations.
