Senior Development & Construction Engineer (Hydrogen)
 
Location: London, Durham, Edinburgh or Dublin
 
Onshore Delivery Engineering within the Central Technical Organisation (CTO) is responsible for performing the engineering aspects of all Onshore Wind and Hydrogen projects; commencing at prospection, projects are to be technically specified and delivered through development, securing finance, and construction ensuring Engineering Excellence prior to handover into Asset Operations.
 
The role reports into the Principal Engineering Manager and line manages the Delivery Engineers within Onshore Delivery Engineering.
 
You will be the Senior Engineer on Hydrogen Projects and appoint Delivery Engineers on Wind Projects; responsible for establishing and co-ordinating multi-discipline project specific engineering team and work process required within assigned projects; supporting the successful delivery that complies with the project requirements, whilst ensuring appropriate engineering design and quality standards and specifications are maintained.
 
Role

  • Strategic leadership and management of Delivery Engineers to ensure we deliver Wind and Hydrogen projects on time, within budget and to a high standard of quality.
  • Provide expertise and focus on all matters related to the engineering specification and design activities on assigned Hydrogen projects, ensuring that deliverables are clearly identified and aligned within timelines and budgets.
  • Manage the Engineering design activities during the front-end engineering design (FEED) and detailed design stages supporting the Work Package Managers and procurement team to ensure delivery satisfies the requirements and timescales of the project.
  • Ownership of the Project Design Management Plan to ensure a consistent approach to Engineering design such that safety, quality, programme and value are measured and balanced to deliver optimised project outcomes.
  • Lead the planning, prioritisation and coordination of suitably qualified and experienced resource to meet Hydrogen projects requirements, including the management and supervision of any required internal or external third parties (consultants, sub-contractors, etc) for project deliverables.
  • Responsible for ensuring technical and design risks, assumptions, issues and decisions are recorded and addressed appropriately, providing technical expertise and guidance to ensure risk level is ALARP through management of the project engineers.
  • Responsible for fully documenting all design assessments, decisions and recommendations for Design Assurance Reviews at critical phases of the project (conceptual design pre-FID design, detailed design and delivered design as defined within the Design Management Process).
  • Coordinate the development of technical specifications across various project engineering disciplines for inclusion within appropriate tender assessments across balance of plant work packages, while managing technical queries.
  • Challenge the project engineers that operational learning and requirements are key considerations and lifetime costs are optimised.
  • Coordinate technical and commercial due diligence, site visits, factory and site acceptance tests and support commissioning as required.
  • Interface with the various Hydrogen Business Unit team, including Hynamics as well as the wider CTO Central Engineering, Technical Governance and Electricity Connections.
  • Providing weekly reports or escalations as required to the Project Manager and Principal Engineering Manager (Line Manager).

 
Required

  • You’ll have experience in leading engineering teams in the development, design and construction of power generation projects, ideally within Hydrogen.
  • You’ll have an understanding of developing and delivering Hydrogen solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design.
  • You’ll possess Project Engineering and Quality Assurance experience within the development and construction of process engineering projects, ideally within Hydrogen.
  • You’ll have working knowledge of Engineering industry standards and design, manufacture, installation and testing codes of practice and regulations.
  • You’ll have working knowledge of Construction Design and Management (CDM) and Control of Major Accident Hazard (COMAH) regulations, design, construction and installation Codes of Practice.
  • You’ll have as minimum a relevant Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • It would be advantageous for you to have experience and/or or a qualification in Project Management.
  • You would possess a full clean driving license with the ability to work away from base location as and when required.
