The old version of the national energy strategy had set a PV target of 39 GW. Renewable energy is currently experiencing substantial development in Spain. With the goal of reaching climate neutrality by 2050, the country is implementing measures to achieve a 100 percent renewable electricity mix by that year. Although wind is currently the most used renewable resource in the Mediterranean country, solar energy is growing at a very fast pace. In fact, the solar capacity installed has quadrupled in the last five years. In 2022, Spain was the fifth country worldwide in terms of new capacity additions.
