Our client is looking for a CDM Principal Designer to support the delivery of a major renewable energy project. This role is based in Inverness with regular site visits to Arnish on the Isle of Lewis and Beauly, and will involve increased site visits as construction progresses.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and familiarise with existing Transmission CDM procedures, particularly those related to the role of Principal Designer.
  • Take ownership of Transmission Principal Designer related procedures and documentation for the Arnish Hub and the Convertor Stations.
  • Ensure all internal and external designers comply with their duties under CDM for the Arnish Hub and Convertor Stations.
  • Initiate regular meetings with the LT14 Hub Client and Principal Contractors.
  • Chair regular Principal Designer meetings for Arnish and Fanellan Convertor Stations.
  • Act as the Point of Interface for all Principal Designers on the Arnish Hub, ensuring effective information exchange.
  • Assist the Client in ensuring an acceptable Temporary Works design process.
  • Support the Client with Pre-Construction Information development and Construction Phase Plan review.
  • Chair or arrange site-specific hazard workshops and proactively work with teams to close actions.
  • Manage or assist with Management of Change (MoC) during the construction phase for Arnish Hub and Convertor Stations.
  • Lead the development and acceptance of Health and Safety Files for the Hub and Convertor Stations.
  • Record all relevant residual risks and other information from the design phase for inclusion in the Health and Safety Files.
  • Prepare monthly reports with KPIs.
  • Collaborate closely with NEC site supervisors to ensure construction aligns with the accepted design.
  • Escalate and report any site issues to the CDM Manager.


About You

  • Proven experience as a Principal Designer in the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of CDM regulations and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders effectively.
  • Based in Scotland, ideally close to the Inverness area.
