Our client are currently recruiting for an exciting role as a Lead Engineer within their Design Team. The Design department is comprised of a number of teams serving different parts of the business and taking responsibility for different product lines. The team provides detailed Engineering Design and Technical support associated with Umbilical/Cable design and termination hardware solutions to meet the customer requirements in the Renewable Energy and Oil and Gas markets commensurate with relevant national and international standards.


Working day-to-day for the Engineering Manager and collaboratively with the Project Coordinator, Project Engineer and Project Quality Engineer the Lead Engineer shall ensure the timely and accurate delivery of the project design deliverables in accordance with Systems design standards and procedures, International standards and client requirements. The Engineering Manager will define the day-to-day priorities for the Lead Engineer, with line management support given by the Engineering Manager. The role will require work on more than one project concurrently.


As a Lead Engineer you will work with the engineering and project teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of the project design deliverables in accordance with internal design standards and procedures, international standards and client requirements.
 
Key Requirements

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of the design deliverables for the project scope in line with the project schedule through effective guidance of the project design team members and approval of output documentation. The design deliverables are to produce designs within lead time and cost targets and meet or exceed the project On-Time Delivery (OTD) and Cost of Non-Quality (CONQ) Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Line management of the Senior Design Engineer (s) and Project Engineer (S) within team, setting work/deadlines and performance development.
  • Ensure that client technical requirements are interpreted appropriately and communicated effectively to the project team. The Lead Engineer must have knowledge of the whole contract to allow sound technical decisions to be made.
  • Verify customer design input and fully review the client technical specifications. The Lead Engineer is specifically responsible for ensuring that the scope of supply and technical requirements, or exceptions, are understood and documented during the bid clarification and into the early project stages. Technical requirements are to be captured by the Lead Engineer in Design Reviews (DRS1-10)Coordinate and lead project based engineering analysis, calculations, termination design, umbilical/cable design, test and qualification, internal and external special testing, packing design.
  • Risk Management - the Lead Engineer needs to ensure that technical risks are addressed and mitigated throughout the project timescale.
  • The Lead Engineer is to hold design reviews at timely and critical intervals throughout the project. The Lead Engineer is to ensure timely issue of minutes of design review meetings (DRS1-10), and follow up on actions, dates and completion.
  • Represent Technical function professionally at client meetings and other meetings that require a technical input in service of the project. Generate strong rapport with client project managers, engineers, inspectors and third party representatives.
  • Ensure that scope change is managed through the Management of Change (MOC) procedure; both increasing scope through Variation Order and also internal scope change agreements with the Project Manager; the Lead Engineer is to evaluate scope changes and provide design time, cost and schedule impact to the Project Manager. (This requires the Lead Engineer to complete and issue Engineering Change Requests, Forms, Technical Notes etc. in a format dependent on current company engineering change system).
  • Review internal Non Conformance and Concession/ Deviation Reports. Assist Project Managers and design team members in the resolution of technical issues.
  • Take delegated responsibility for the project from time to time from the Project Manager.
  • Support the core Project Team in achieving delivery; Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Project Planner and Project Quality Engine
