Our client is looking for a Structural/Foundation Engineer to join the Engineering team in support of the WTG (Wind Turbine Generator) and OSS (Offshore Substation) foundations packages. The Foundations Engineer will play a key role in defining the optimal solution for the WTG and OSS foundations associated with the project. This role will report to both WTG and OSS Package Managers. 
The Foundations Engineer will support the WTG foundations and OSS package managers within the JV structure and will provide support in leading the engineering and design strategy for the foundations during the development phase of the project, as well as supporting procurement activities if and where required to achieve a successful FID.
The role is a long-term role and shall support to the project during the FEED, Detailed Design and Construction phases.
 
Responsibilities
  • Manage the review process of the foundation design documents, in alignment with the project review process.
    • Make sure that other internal stakeholders/reviewers have been involved, collate, and consolidate the various comments.
    • Support the WTG Foundations, OSS Package Managers and Interface Manager in ensuring that interfaces with other packages, contractors and stakeholders are identified and appropriately managed.
    • Coordinate integration of other input into optimizing WTG and OSS Foundations solutions, such as that obtained from EPCI contractors, consultants, and the wider industry.
  • Review in detail the WTG and OSS Foundations design studies such as conceptual, FEED, and detailed designs performed by external parties.
    • Ability to check the designer’s design reports and calculations is necessary, the Foundation Engineer shall be able to perform independent calculations, covering both structural and geotechnical designs.
    • Review and comment on design standards adopted by the project contractors. 
    • Review and comment on design procedures proposed by the project contractors.
    • Review and comment on compliance with the relevant specification. 
  • Manage the integrated Load Iteration (ILA) process between the WTG foundation designer and the WTG designer, including the involvement from the design certifier for independent review/calculations.
  • Liaising with the Certification Manager to ensure that the certification process is run efficiently. Creation of a strong and cooperative relationship between the designers, OWPL and the certifier is of paramount importance.
  • Promote good HSSE practices and ensure HSE / CDM requirements are fully implemented.
    • Ensure the foundation design is compliant with the relevant HSE legislation, recommendation, and industry practice
    • Ensure ‘Safe by design’ is fully implemented and risks reduced to ALARP
    • Makre sure that temporary phases are well integrated into the design, including requirements from other stakeholders such as manufacturers, T&I contractors, Cable contractors, WTG contractors, OSP contractors, etc.
  • Organise, lead and minute key technical meetings in relation to the above activities.
  • Preparation of technical documents/ papers for internal review
  • Prepare internal reporting as required.
  • Preparation of employer’s requirements and technical specifications
  • Lead technical evaluation of proposals and evaluation of suppliers as part of tender processes in coordination with the WTG Foundations and OSS Package Managers, and the commercial team.
  • Review the foundation suppliers manufacturing methods, quality plans etc such that the design requirements are fulfilled.
  • Contribute to the identification and management of technical risks, issues and impacts to the project associated with the WTG and OSS foundations scope.
  • Liaise with experts within the JV shareholders to ensure the use of best practices and apply lessons learnt from previous projects.
Requirements
  • Be degree educated in engineering or a related field with approximately 10 years’ experience, 5 years of which spent working in the field of offshore structures design/assessment and preferably in offshore wind
  • Be chartered
  • Experience and knowledge of offshore wind WTG and OSS foundations is essential, in particular within foundations design. 
Specific Role Competencies
  • Proven technical knowledge in the field of offshore wind foundations and technical project management skills, specifically:
  • Familiarity with codes and standards such as DNV-ST-0126, DNV-ST-145, DNV-ST-0437, ISO 19900, 19901, 19902, Eurocodes etc
  • Experience of offshore structural analysis using software such as SESAM, SACS etc
  • Understanding of the CDM 2015 regulations in relation to the design, procurement, and installation of offshore wind assets
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage own workload, meet timescales and coordinate external and internal stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills to enable effective discussions and transfer of information amongst contractors, team members and other stakeholders.
  • Highly motivated, forward-thinking, and ready to implement innovative solutions.
  • Ability to work as a member of a large and multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent knowledge of English, written and spoken.
