Site Engineer (Civils Infrastructure for Underground Cables)

Our client is looking for a Site Engineer (Civils Infrastructure for Underground Cables) to support the delivery of a major renewable energy project across various locations in Scotland. This role focuses on the civils infrastructure stage prior to cable installation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing civil works during construction and ensuring compliance with the Works Information.
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate records, including diaries, resources, photographs, progress updates, and weather conditions.
  • Reviewing RFIs, TQs, and contractor documentation, including quality plans, construction phase plans, method statements, risk assessments, inspection and test plans, and contractor designs.
  • Witnessing tests and attending inspection activities to confirm that the works comply with designs and specifications.
  • Notifying defects, instructing searches for defects, and coordinating defect close-out with the Project Manager and contractor.
  • Reviewing contractor programmes to identify the order and timing of the works in relation to design coordination, testing, inspections, and interface activities with other contractors.
  • Maintaining accurate records to support as-built information, record design changes, and share lessons learned with the wider team.


About You

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in a site-based engineering role, particularly on major civils construction schemes.
  • Familiarity with underground infrastructure works, including trenching, excavation, duct installation, backfilling, earthworks, and temporary access roads.
  • Knowledge of works around crossings, such as roads, rivers, and railways.
  • Exposure to open cut excavation and/or horizontal directional drilling is beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills for effective liaison with project stakeholders.
  • Scotland-based candidates preferred, ideally near Caithness, Aberdeenshire, or the Inverness/West Coast route.
  • Must possess a full driving licence and own car, and be comfortable with regular travel across sites.
  • Self-sufficient and experienced, as the work is spread across large routes with limited client engineer presence on site.
