Head of Technical Asset Management

Role Objective

The Head of Technical Asset Management will lead and direct the Technical Asset Management function, ensuring the efficient operation, optimisation, and compliance of a diverse renewable energy portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing transformation of the UK energy sector while driving operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement across technical operations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead and manage the Technical Asset Management team, establishing clear responsibilities, delivery priorities, and measurable performance objectives.
• Drive accountability, operational excellence, and proactive stakeholder engagement across all team activities.
• Develop and implement strategic operational plans in collaboration with senior leadership to ensure alignment with business objectives.
• Mentor, coach, and develop team members, fostering technical expertise, professional growth, and a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

Asset Performance & Operations

• Take overall responsibility for portfolio availability, maximising operational performance and minimising downtime across renewable energy assets.
• Implement initiatives to improve asset reliability, efficiency, and long-term performance.
• Collaborate closely with Asset Managers to ensure operational activities support portfolio-wide performance targets.
• Monitor asset performance through SCADA systems, data platforms, and market intelligence, identifying opportunities for optimisation.
• Provide technical leadership in operational troubleshooting, system testing, and performance validation.

Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure full compliance with all technical, operational, legal, environmental, warranty, and health & safety requirements.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks, implementing corrective actions to safeguard asset integrity and business continuity.
• Lead compliance reviews, audits, and safety initiatives while promoting a strong culture of responsibility and operational discipline.
• Ensure maintenance systems and technical documentation support audit readiness and effective lifecycle management.

Contractor & Project Management

• Manage and oversee Operations & Maintenance (O&M) providers, ensuring service delivery meets agreed KPIs and quality standards.
• Support and oversee PAC, IAC, and FAC commissioning processes, ensuring milestones are achieved on time and to specification.
• Manage subcontractors and technical service providers, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and technical standards.
• Provide technical leadership and coordination for cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives.

Data Analysis & Reporting

• Lead the reporting, analysis, and modelling of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and other renewable technologies to enable data-driven decision-making.
• Analyse operational data to diagnose issues, improve efficiency, and support investment and operational strategies.
• Produce clear, insightful reports for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex information into actionable recommendations.
• Conduct site visits to assess technical performance, verify compliance, and maintain effective relationships with technical advisers and operational teams.

Strategic Contribution

• Collaborate with Asset Management, Investment, ESG, and other business functions to ensure technical operations support wider organisational objectives.
• Champion innovation and operational excellence, identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes, and asset performance.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the Technical Asset Management function through the implementation of best practice, scalable processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills & Experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or another numerically focused discipline such as Data Science, Mathematics, Finance, or a related technical subject.
• Strong academic background with proven analytical and problem-solving capability.

Experience

• Minimum of 10 years' experience within the renewable energy sector or a closely related industry.
• Demonstrated experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), which is essential for this role.
• Experience managing large and diverse portfolios of operational renewable assets, including Solar, BESS, Wind, or comparable technologies.
• Proven track record of delivering operational and strategic objectives within complex environments.

Technical Skills

• Strong analytical capability with experience interpreting large datasets to generate meaningful operational and commercial insights.
• Knowledge of Python, MySQL, or similar programming languages is highly desirable.
• Experience using SCADA platforms, business intelligence tools, and asset management systems to monitor and optimise performance.
