An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Delivery Director to lead the delivery of a growing portfolio of Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects across the UK.
This is a strategic leadership role, responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of projects from pre-construction through to commissioning and handover. You'll lead a high-performing project delivery team, manage key contractor and stakeholder relationships, and play a pivotal role in scaling the organisation's project delivery capability.

The Role
As Project Delivery Director, you will provide leadership across a portfolio of complex infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
Working closely with executive leadership, engineering, commercial and asset management teams, you will establish delivery strategy, oversee project governance and ensure successful execution from development through to operational handover.

The Role
As Project Delivery Director, you will provide leadership across a portfolio of complex infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
Working closely with executive leadership, engineering, commercial and asset management teams, you will establish delivery strategy, oversee project governance and ensure successful execution from development through to operational handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a growing team of Project Managers, providing leadership, mentoring and technical guidance.
- Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of a portfolio of UK energy infrastructure projects.
- Act as the primary interface for National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) construction activities across pre-construction, construction and project close-out.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with National Grid and other key transmission stakeholders.
- Chair regular project and stakeholder meetings, ensuring effective governance and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop and manage detailed project execution plans, programmes and delivery strategies.
- Oversee project budgets, forecasts, cash flow and commercial performance, ensuring financial control throughout delivery.
- Identify, manage and mitigate delivery risks, implementing effective contingency plans where required.
- Lead procurement activities, contractor selection and supplier management, including EPC contractors, HV Balance of Plant contractors and technology providers.
- Manage tendering activities, define employer's requirements and oversee contract negotiations.
- Resolve contractual and commercial issues throughout project delivery.
- Provide regular project updates and strategic reporting to senior leadership and the Board.
- Lead the successful handover of completed assets to the Operations and Asset Management teams.
You'll be an experienced project delivery leader with a proven track record of managing major energy infrastructure projects and leading multidisciplinary delivery teams.
You will bring:
- Degree qualified in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering (or a related discipline). A Master's degree would be advantageous.
- 10+ years' experience delivering complex energy or infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrable experience delivering National Grid transmission or grid connection projects.
- Strong knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), renewable energy developments, substations or high-voltage infrastructure.
- Experience working with National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), SP Transmission (SPT) and Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN).
- Good understanding of NESO requirements and grid connection processes.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing project budgets, contracts and contractor performance.
- Experience leading EPC contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent planning and programme management skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office.
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills.
