Our client is seeking an experienced commercial professional to lead its Power Business function, focusing on the commercialization of a growing renewable energy portfolio. This role will be responsible for developing and executing power sales strategies, leading Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) initiatives, managing REC sales, and identifying new revenue opportunities within Korea’s evolving electricity market.
This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone who enjoys building commercial frameworks, negotiating complex energy agreements, and driving profitability across renewable energy assets.
Key Responsibilities
Power Sales Strategy
- Develop and execute electricity and REC sales strategies for renewable energy assets.
- Assess commercialization opportunities through PPA, CPPA, and REC transactions.
- Evaluate pricing, contract terms, and commercial structures to maximize project profitability.
- Prepare and manage annual and long-term power sales plans.
CPPA & Offtaker Development
- Identify and engage corporate offtakers, including RE100 companies and large industrial electricity users.
- Assess customer energy demand and sustainability objectives.
- Lead CPPA proposal development, commercial negotiations, and contract execution.
- Coordinate with utilities, advisors, trading partners, and internal stakeholders throughout the transaction process.
PPA Structuring & Contract Management
- Structure Direct PPA, Third-Party PPA, and Virtual PPA (VPPA) solutions.
- Review key commercial terms including pricing, REC allocation, settlement mechanisms, contract duration, and commercial risks.
- Partner with Legal, Finance, and Business teams to evaluate contractual and commercial impacts.
- Support contract management, issue resolution, and renegotiation of existing agreements.
Market Analysis & Business Development
- Monitor developments in the Korean electricity market, REC market, PPA regulations, RE100 initiatives, and carbon policies.
- Evaluate new business opportunities including ESS, Virtual Power Plants (VPP), power aggregation, and flexibility services.
- Benchmark domestic and international renewable energy commercialization models and industry trends.
Leadership & Process Improvement
- Develop standardized commercial processes, reporting frameworks, and portfolio management systems.
- Track commercial performance, contract status, profitability, and key business risks.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to team capability development.
Executive Support
- Prepare commercial analyses and strategic recommendations for senior management.
- Present negotiation strategies and business cases to support executive decision-making.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including Asset Management, Finance, Investment, and Development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy, Business, Economics, Law, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 5–10 years of relevant experience in:
- Power Sales
- Corporate PPA (CPPA)
- Renewable Energy Certificates (REC)
- Renewable Energy Project Development
- Electricity Markets
- Energy Trading
- Power Retail or Commercial Strategy
- Proven experience in PPA or REC pricing, commercial structuring, contract negotiation, and financial analysis.
- Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills with corporate offtakers, utilities, renewable energy developers, or market participants.
- Ability to prepare executive-level commercial recommendations based on financial, contractual, and market analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and establish scalable commercial processes.
