Health & Safety, Physical Security and Crisis Management Officer (H&SO)
The Health & Safety, Physical Security and Crisis Management Officer is a senior leadership role supporting organisational growth and transformation. The role provides strategic direction and practical leadership across organisational Health & Safety governance, office safety, physical security, business continuity, and crisis management.
The H&SO ensures robust business continuity and crisis preparedness, aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practice, while driving continuous improvement in safety, security, and organisational resilience. The role works closely with executive leadership, business units, risk, operations, and corporate functions to embed safe, compliant, and effective ways of working.
Key Accountabilities
Lead Health & Safety, Physical Security and Crisis Management initiatives, fostering a strong safety culture, creating a network of champions, and ensuring organisational alignment and performance.
Work closely with executives and management teams to align strategic plans and ensure effective execution. Coordinate across business units and corporate functions to achieve zero-harm objectives and operational excellence. Identify implementation risks and escalate issues where appropriate.
Health & Safety Coordination
  • Coordinate Health & Safety across the organisation and all office locations, working collaboratively with Health & Safety representatives within each business unit to support senior leadership in achieving the highest standards.
  • Collect, validate and report Health & Safety data, ensuring accuracy, analysis and meaningful recommendations through regular reporting.
  • Implement Health & Safety policies, procedures, training programmes and awareness campaigns, adapting them to meet applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and regulatory requirements, ensuring the organisation remains compliant.
  • Lead the deployment of organisational safety culture initiatives and develop annual action plans, working collaboratively with Health & Safety representatives across the business to ensure a consistent approach. Report progress regularly to senior leadership.
  • Take direct responsibility for Health & Safety within office environments, ensuring appropriate first aid and fire marshal coverage, emergency arrangements, equipment, signage, wellbeing initiatives and statutory records are maintained.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, employee forums and management conferences to promote Health & Safety culture, communicate performance, review incidents, monitor action plans and support organisational safety communications.
Physical Security
  • Ensure the organisation complies with corporate standards and regulatory requirements relating to physical security for people, offices and operational assets.
  • Ensure appropriate physical security arrangements are established for new operational sites and offices in accordance with internal standards and legal requirements.
  • Review existing physical security controls against the organisation's internal control framework and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement physical security improvement plans across the organisation.
  • Support security leadership through awareness campaigns, training programmes and the promotion of security best practice.
Crisis Management and Business Continuity
  • Provide strategic leadership for crisis management, emergency response and business continuity across the organisation, ensuring effective governance and preparedness.
  • Advise and support senior leadership on Health & Safety, security and crisis management matters.
  • Oversee implementation of the organisational crisis management framework and ensure alignment with internal control and business continuity requirements.
  • Drive organisational preparedness through crisis planning, simulation exercises, emergency response testing and resilience programmes.
  • Strengthen executive and organisational crisis readiness through awareness, training and stakeholder engagement.

  • Strong collaboration and constructive engagement with the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Effective delivery of agreed Health & Safety, security and crisis management initiatives.
  • Timely identification, assessment and mitigation of organisational risks.

Experience and Qualifications
Experience
  • Proven experience leading Health & Safety, physical security and crisis management programmes within complex organisations.
  • Demonstrated success influencing senior stakeholders and leading cross-functional initiatives.
  • Experience within a regulated or infrastructure-based industry is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the UK regulatory environment is advantageous.
Qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Health & Safety, Crisis Management, Risk Management or a related discipline.
  • Professional Health & Safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma, Chartered Membership of IOSH or equivalent) is desirable.
  • 5–10 years' experience in a senior leadership or strategic management role.
  • Proven track record of leading organisational change and transformation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation, regulatory compliance and industry best practice.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
