Commissioning Manager

Job Purpose
Support the Senior Commissioning Manager in leading safe, compliant, and cost-effective commissioning activities for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects.

Key Responsibilities

RfP & Design Interface

• Define technical requirements for RfP/tender documents (BoP, BESS, and SCADA).
• Evaluate incoming tenders and map scope boundaries to prevent interface gaps.

Construction Phase Support

• Review contractor technical designs, ITPs, and Commissioning Plans.
• Provide technical design support to Project Managers and participate in HAZOPs.
• Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and monitor on-site installation progress.

Commissioning & Handover

• Supervise on-site electrical, BESS, and SCADA commissioning to ensure ITP compliance.
• Witness and formally certify Site Acceptance Tests (SATs).
• Verify that all plant equipment meets UK grid compliance standards.
• Review contractor completion records and lead the sub-system handover process.

Governance & Compliance

• Maintain strict adherence to information security and workstation protection policies.
• Support QHSE audits, incident reporting, and compliance with UK health and safety laws.

Key Relationships

• Internal: Project Managers, Operations, Investment, and Support teams.
• External: Contractors, Consultants, DNOs/TNOs, and Regulators.

Education & Experience

• Education: BTEC HNC/HND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or related field).
• Experience: 4–6 years in the renewable energy sector.
• Core Background: Prior experience as a Commissioning Engineer/Manager on HV/LV electrical projects.
• Technical Exposure: Hands-on management of 11kV and 33kV switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and SCADA (132kV is a plus).
• BESS Knowledge: Proven track record with BESS build, control signals, and networking protocols.
• Safety: Deep understanding of Safe Systems of Work, Permit-to-Work, and LOTO procedures.

Skills & Knowledge

• Working knowledge of EREC G99 protection requirements and the UK Grid Code.
• Ability to review, compare, and audit contractor drawings and test reports.
• Experience engaging directly with DNOs and IDNOs.
