Key Responsibilities
- Define the cable system design basis and routing strategy, using desktop studies and geophysical/geotechnical data to optimize routes while considering seabed conditions, existing infrastructure, and environmental constraints.
- Lead CBRA and BAS studies to define target burial depths and select appropriate burial technologies (e.g. trenching, jetting, ploughing) to ensure long-term cable protection.
- Develop and own Employer’s Requirements and technical specifications for cable systems, accessories, testing, installation, and commissioning in compliance with IEC, CIGRE, DNV, and grid code requirements.
- Review and manage detailed cable system designs, including route engineering, thermal and mechanical analyses, protection systems, HDD/landfall design, and interface requirements.
- Coordinate and manage technical interfaces with WTG, foundations, offshore/onshore substations, and grid connection packages, including HAZID/HAZOP and marine works coordination.
- Lead the procurement process for cable supply and installation, including tender preparation, technical bid evaluation, and contract negotiations.
- Oversee manufacturing, testing, and jointing/termination activities, conducting FATs and ensuring documentation completeness for certification and handover.
- Manage and supervise offshore construction activities, including vessel mobilization, shore pull-ins, cable laying, burial, and protection works, acting as the client representative offshore when required.
- Oversee SAT and commissioning activities, including electrical testing, integrity verification, and preparation of as-built documentation for O&M handover.
- Support operations and long-term asset integrity, including fault investigation, emergency repair strategies, scour monitoring, and cable protection optimization to ensure availability and reliability.
Experience & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Marine Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of project engineering experience, with substantial hands-on responsibility for offshore subsea cable systems in wind or utility-scale projects.
- Deep technical expertise across the full lifecycle of MV/HV subsea cables, including design, manufacturing, testing, installation, and landfall engineering.
- Proficiency in cable thermal and mechanical modelling (e.g. CYMCAP, COMSOL, ANSYS), rating verification, and induced voltage/sheath bonding analysis (advantageous).
- Proven experience leading installation engineering and offshore execution readiness, including method statements, risk assessments, and MWS/CVA processes.
- Strong commercial and contractual acumen, including scope definition, tendering, technical bid evaluation, and change/claims management (FIDIC/NEC familiarity preferred).
- Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in complex, international environments.
- Proactive, detail-oriented professional capable of managing multiple priorities, identifying risks, and driving innovative, practical solutions.
- Solid working knowledge of industry regulations, safety requirements, and quality standards, with a strong commitment to HSE excellence.
- Strong communication skills with experience producing technical reports and proposals, fluent in spoken and written English, and able to build effective relationships across diverse teams.
