Our client is looking for a Project Manager - Development & Construction to lead the delivery of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Europe.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in line with the technical and commercial objectives of the business. You will act as the key interface between the business, contractors, consultants, and external stakeholders, coordinating all aspects of project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and manage integrated project programmes, ensuring scope, sequencing, dependencies, and critical-path activities are clearly defined.
- Lead project execution from pre-construction through construction, commissioning, energisation, and handover into operations.
- Monitor progress against agreed milestones, proactively identifying delays, constraints, and opportunities to improve delivery.
- Prepare, maintain and update project execution plans, risk registers, and associated reporting.
- Coordinate key project transitions, including commencement of construction, EPC takeover, commissioning, energisation, and operational handover.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets, identifying potential cost increases and advising the investment team at an early stage.
- Manage variations, change orders, contractual notices, claims, and disputes, ensuring these are assessed, negotiated, and documented appropriately.
- Administer project contracts in accordance with contractual terms, ensuring obligations, deadlines, and notice requirements are met.
- Support the preparation of technical specifications, contract schedules, and commercial conditions.
- Contribute to procurement and tendering activities, reviewing submissions to assess scope, technical compliance, commercial suitability, and allocation of project risks.
- Manage and hold accountable EPC contractors, grid connection contractors, developers, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Establish effective governance, reporting, and communication processes, including regular progress meetings and performance reviews.
- Identify, assess, and actively manage project risks and issues throughout pre-construction and construction.
- Oversee compliance with relevant health, safety, environmental, planning, and permitting requirements.
- Maintain comprehensive project records, including contractual correspondence, design documentation, drawings, as-built information, operating manuals, vendor data, inspection records, and completion reports.
About You
- 5–10 years’ experience managing utility-scale renewable energy or power infrastructure projects, ideally with a strong focus on BESS.
- Experience delivering projects through multiple lifecycle stages, from development and pre-construction through construction, commissioning, and operation.
- Practical knowledge of high-voltage (HV) connections, grid code compliance, and commissioning requirements in the UK or other European markets.
- Strong budget management skills, including cost forecasting, variation assessment, and financial reporting.
- Experience working with electricity transmission and distribution network operators and other relevant system stakeholders.
- A degree in engineering, or equivalent technical experience supported by relevant professional qualifications.
- Fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
