Role Purpose

This is a key strategic role and a member of the senior management team, responsible for leading the delivery and construction of a multi-GW pipeline of new build solar and BESS projects. The role carries direct accountability for teams managing processes from acquisition through to EPC/ICP contract execution, and onward through construction to energisation.

The Programme Delivery Director will ensure projects are delivered to the highest quality standards, on time and within budget, while maintaining strict adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements. The role includes identifying and managing key risks and ensuring alignment with ESG policies. Close collaboration with asset management functions is required to ensure a smooth handover of newly constructed assets at PAC to the appointed Commercial Manager.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  1. Degree-level qualification in Engineering, Construction, or equivalent professional experience.
  2. Extensive experience delivering multiple utility-scale renewable energy and BESS projects across multi-year programmes.
  3. Proven experience establishing and managing systems and processes for effective programme control and reporting.
  4. Strong experience in contractual negotiations with EPC and ICP contractors, contract management, construction oversight, and equipment procurement.
  5. Experience managing grid connection requirements and technical aspects at both distribution and transmission levels.
  6. Strong technical, communication, and project management skills, with a commitment to high standards of health, safety, environmental management, and planning compliance.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, leading high-performing teams and collaborating across internal and external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct line management of the Head of Project Delivery, Head of Grid Services, and Head of Construction, along with their respective teams (approximately 10 people combined).
  • Joint ownership, alongside the Investment team, of capital deployment across the Ready-to-Build pipeline. Responsible for the commercial and technical management of the post-planning pipeline (c.2GW), from planning approval through EPC construction, commissioning, and into the warranty period (e.g. PAC/Take Over Certificate).
  • Support the Head of Project Delivery in managing tender processes and contract negotiations with EPC, ICP, and other key contractors, including milestone payments, liquidated damages, and retentions.
  • Support the Head of Construction in overseeing the full construction lifecycle, from pre-construction activities through commissioning and into the warranty phase.
  • Work closely with HSEQ, Risk Management, and ESG teams to ensure compliance across all aspects of project delivery.
  • Establish and manage procurement strategies for long-lead items and key components to optimise cost efficiency across the pipeline.
  • Develop and maintain systems, KPIs, and reporting frameworks for all pre-construction and construction projects, including cost benchmarking, risk management, and data tracking.
  • Lead and coordinate delivery teams and resources (internal and external) to:
    • Ensure projects are delivered in line with agreed designs and EPC agreements, meeting quality, schedule, and safety requirements (including CDM and H&S standards).
    • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including DNOs, landowners, contractors, and local communities.
    • Manage extension projects to existing operational assets.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g. Ofgem) ahead of commissioning.
    • Oversee resolution of punch list items, defects, and performance-related matters at PAC.
    • Develop comprehensive handover documentation to enable seamless transition to asset management post-commissioning.
  • Ensure the production of timely, high-quality reporting for internal and external stakeholders, including periodic and annual reporting. Maintain detailed project schedules (e.g. Gantt charts) and ensure clear communication of key milestones.
  • Collaborate closely with development teams to transition projects from “ready to build” to “shovel ready,” ensuring full handover of key risks, planning conditions, stakeholder relationships, and outstanding requirements.

Ad Hoc Duties

  • Contribute to broader business activities as part of the senior management team, including tasks outside core responsibilities where required. This may include site visits and occasional overnight travel.
  • Provide leadership and support on ad hoc projects, initiatives, and operational requirements, including temporary cover for commercial management of operating assets if needed.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and line management of team members as required.
