Job Overview

An established client is currently seeking a highly skilled HV Fitter to join a dynamic team in the South Wales and Bristol region. This role is pivotal in maintaining, installing, and repairing critical high voltage infrastructure for a variety of clients, including Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs), and private entities. The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated team that ensures the stability and efficiency of high voltage networks, contributing to both planned and emergency maintenance tasks.

The role offers the chance to work on diverse projects, from new installations and upgrades to responsive maintenance, in a supportive and collaborative environment. The team is committed to delivering high-quality service while adhering to stringent safety standards and technical specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Installing and maintaining high voltage (HV) equipment and switchgear, including Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) and Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) systems up to 132kV.
• Working on power transformers, protection panels, battery chargers, and SCADA/telecontrol panels.
• Performing planned and emergency maintenance across customer and DNO networks.
• Interpreting technical drawings and setting out installation work, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
• Collaborating with engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure efficient and safe delivery of work.
• Participating in out-of-hours and standby duties to address urgent operational issues.
• Supporting various industrial environments, including manufacturing and commercial private networks.

Qualifications

• Recognised qualification in Electrical Power Engineering, with DNO industry experience in the UK or overseas.
• Proven track record in the construction, repair, and operation of HV equipment up to 132kV.
• NVQ Level 3 in electrical installation work.
• Sound knowledge of HV and Low Voltage (LV) systems, with experience as an Electrician being advantageous.
• Familiarity with a range of switchgear, protection types, and installation/maintenance procedures.
• Competency in using testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
• Flexible approach to completing standby and out-of-hours work.
• Full UK driving licence, as travel is essential in this role.
