Key Responsibilities
- Lead desktop feasibility studies to identify geohazards and ground conditions (UXO, boulders, shallow gas, faults) and inform early design and risk strategies.
- Define and execute the G&G campaign strategy, including phased geophysical, UXO, and geotechnical investigations aligned with permitting, certification, and design schedules.
- Establish commercial and risk-allocation strategies for ground risk between developer and contractors, including ALARP demonstration.
- Own the planning, scheduling, and delivery of geophysical and geotechnical survey campaigns, ensuring alignment with seasonality, permitting, and overall project milestones.
- Lead procurement and contract management for survey contractors and consultants, including scope definition, bid evaluation, negotiations, VO management, payments, and claims.
- Set and enforce data standards, QA/QC, and HSE requirements, reviewing RAMS and ERPs and managing client representatives and survey managers offshore.
- Manage data interpretation and geotechnical engineering studies, including laboratory testing strategies, GIRs, Geotechnical Design Basis, and advanced analyses (e.g. IGM, PSHA, SSRA, seabed mobility).
- Coordinate seamless data integration and handover across survey contractors, engineering consultants, and design packages (foundations, cables, T&I).
- Provide technical leadership during construction, managing geotechnical risks, UXO clearance strategies, as-built ground records, and supporting dispute or claims resolution.
- Lead technical engagement with certification bodies, ensuring geotechnical deliverables meet project, regulatory, and certification requirements.
Experience & Skills
- Master’s or PhD in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geophysics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of offshore marine geotechnics/geophysics experience, with hands-on involvement from pre-FEED through construction, including site investigations, laboratory testing, and reporting.
- Deep practical knowledge of offshore installation and foundation concepts, including pile drivability, leg penetration and damping, cable trenching, burial, and protection methodologies.
- Extensive experience in survey procurement and execution, deliverables QA/QC, and translating geotechnical and geophysical data into foundation and cable design inputs.
- Proven ability to manage geotechnical ground models, assess soil conditions, and evaluate installation and construction risks.
- Strong working knowledge of geotechnical software tools (e.g. PLAXIS 3D, GRLWEAP or similar) and programming capabilities (MATLAB and/or Python preferred).
- Demonstrated project management and leadership capability, including coordination of consultants, subcontractors, and multi-stakeholder interfaces (formal certification advantageous).
- Solid commercial and contractual acumen, bridging technical requirements with business needs and engaging effectively with geoscience suppliers and contractors.
- Strong commitment to HSE and environmental best practices, with a working knowledge of relevant regulations, safety standards, and quality systems.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and interpersonal skills, able to work independently or within multidisciplinary teams, fluent in written and spoken English, and driven by continuous improvement.
