Civil Project Engineer
Scope / Project: Civil engineering support across our clients project portfolio, with an initial focus on the North Argyll / Western Region portfolio. This will include substation works, overhead line foundation design and assessment, OHL access routes/tracks, and wider development-phase transmission infrastructure schemes.
Location: Hybrid working from Glasgow/Perth office, with site visits across Scotland as required.
Scope of Services: Our client requires a Civil Project Engineer to provide civil engineering support across multiple transmission infrastructure projects. The role will support both development and delivery phases, including early-stage optioneering, outline design, scope development, technical assurance, and construction support.
The Civil Project Engineer will be expected to support the development of outline civil designs, contribute to site and route selection, specify ground investigation requirements, review and develop earthworks, access road, drainage, public road upgrade and landscaping proposals, and support the delivery of robust civil engineering scopes for proposed transmission assets. The role will also include support to overhead line civil works, including OHL foundation requirements, access route/tracks development, temporary and permanent access considerations, and associated constructability and environmental constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide civil engineering support across multiple projects by developing outline designs during development phases, including site/route selection, ground investigation specification, earthworks designs, drainage strategies, public road upgrades, access track requirements, OHL foundation considerations and landscaping proposals.
  • Define the scope of engineering design and support the development of clear, buildable and technically robust civil engineering requirements.
  • Validate and verify engineering design, construction and installation outputs for assigned projects.
  • Develop scopes of work, technical specifications and supporting documentation for civil engineering works.
  • Support site teams to ensure the quality of civil installations and compliance with project requirements.
  • Review design deliverables and provide technical comments, assurance and challenge where required.
  • Evaluate tender submissions, technical proposals and civil engineering scopes.
  • Procure and manage specialist services, including ground investigation, surveys, geotechnical assessments, drainage assessments, flood risk assessments and other supporting studies.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering managers, project managers, contractors, consultants, operations teams and other engineering disciplines.
  • Support Safety in Design, CDM compliance, design risk management, HAZID reviews and constructability assessments.
  • Communicate technical risks, issues and recommendations clearly to support decision making by senior management."
