Role Title: Business Development Lead
Department: Commercial Sales
Location: South Wales, Bristol, Bath, or along the M4 corridor


Role Overview

Our client is seeking a high-performing Business Development Lead with a strong “hunter” mentality to drive new customer acquisition and revenue growth within our commercial sales team. This role focuses on identifying and converting new opportunities, building senior customer relationships, and developing a high-quality sales pipeline that supports rapid commercial expansion.

The ideal candidate brings experience in fast-paced, field-based business development and a strong background in plant hire, temporary/off-grid power, mobility, fleet, or refuelling services.


Key Responsibilities

New Business Acquisition

  • Identify, target, and win new customer accounts within priority sectors.

  • Generate leads and convert them into long-term commercial partnerships.

  • Build a sustainable and high-value pipeline aligned to revenue targets.

Commercial Strategy & Execution

  • Analyse markets, customer needs, and competitive activity to identify new commercial opportunities.

  • Develop tailored value propositions for clients in construction, power, fleet, and infrastructure sectors.

  • Contribute to the creation and delivery of go-to-market strategies.

Relationship Building

  • Build relationships with key decision-makers including operations leaders, depot managers, fleet managers, procurement teams, and senior commercial stakeholders.

  • Represent the business at industry events, site visits, and client meetings.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work closely with the Commercial Sales team to ensure alignment on targets and priorities.

  • Provide accurate updates on pipeline, forecasts, and customer activity.


Candidate Profile

Preferred Background & Industry Experience

(in order of preference)

Plant Hire Sector

  • Experience with national or regional plant and tool hire businesses.

Temporary / Off-Grid Power

  • Background in temporary power, off-grid energy, diesel generators, or cleaner alternative power solutions.

Mobility & Fleet

  • Experience in fleet management, van or truck sales, vehicle leasing, or transport operations.

Refuelling & Industrial Services

  • Experience with on-site refuelling, fuel management, or industrial service providers.

Candidates with established networks or customer relationships within these categories will be strongly prioritised.

Location Requirement

Must be based in, or have strong commercial coverage across:

  • South Wales

  • Bristol

  • Bath

  • The M4 corridor

Core Competencies

  • A true “hunter” profile — driven, proactive, and motivated by winning new business.

  • Proven success in meeting and exceeding sales targets.

  • Strong at pipeline generation, opportunity qualification, and closing deals.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Comfortable working independently and travelling frequently.
