U.S. Solar Surges: Utility-Scale Capacity Nearly Doubles in Two Years

According to a new reNEWS report, utility-scale solar capacity in the United States rose from 91.82 GW to 158.43 GW between September 2023 and September 2025, underscoring a dramatic surge in solar deployment nationwide.

Solar Leads the Clean Energy Expansion

The report finds that solar has topped all other technologies in new capacity additions for the past 25 consecutive months, a clear signal that photovoltaics remain the dominant force shaping the U.S. power grid.

As of mid-2025, solar — along with battery storage and wind — accounted for the majority of new electricity generation capacity.

Why This Momentum Matters Globally

This surge in U.S. solar capacity shows how cost declines, improved permitting, and growing corporate and utility-scale investment are driving real change. It also highlights the growing importance of solar-plus-storage configurations and integrated clean-energy solutions.

For global players and developers, the U.S. market’s pace offers valuable lessons: rapid deployment is possible when regulatory frameworks, market demand, and investor confidence align.

Opportunity for Talent and Investment

For the renewable energy workforce and supply chain, this expansion signals rising demand in:

  • Project development and permitting

  • Engineering and construction for solar and storage

  • Operation and maintenance of large-scale solar assets

At LSP Renewables, we foresee strong demand for skilled professionals as solar developers scale up. Whether you are hiring or seeking a role in solar or storage, now is a prime moment to act.
