The solar sector will be creating more than a million job opportunities by the end of the decade.
Installers, electricians, project managers, engineers, lawyers, asset managers and more, will all be in high demand, and required in vast numbers to achieve the global energy transition.

Last week, Head of Solar, Scott Thomson attended the Solar Works online jobs fair. The fair was hosted on a digital platform where job seekers and companies from the entire solar supply chain were able to collaborate to showcase what they are doing to support the solar sector and attract new recruits.

With 50GW of installations to be completed in 2024, the solar sector is seeing year on year improvements with the number of installations appearing across the globe. Approximately 40.2GW of Solar PV was installed in 2022, that being a 43% improvement on the 28.1GW in 2021.

In 2022, the European solar industry saw 81% of its employees in installation/construction project phases, that equalling to around 648,000 people.  As projects begin developing through to installation/development phases, the solar industry will see its already 650,000 employees reach 1.2 million by 2027.
Poland, Spain & Germany are seen as some of the top countries employing Solar PV professionals to date, however Germany is set to be ranked 1st in Solar PV by 2027, with Romania creeping into the top 7.

Rooftop (C&I/Residential) instalment projects are classed as the largest employer (totalling around 7 in every European country when compared to utility scale project employment. Spain ratio at about 50% rooftop projects vs 50% of utility scale jobs. Whereas Poland and Italy are at the other end of the scale with only 10% of their solar workforce in the utility scale sector.

Technological advancements, energy storage solutions, smart grid integration, decentralized energy generation, and supportive government policies, the solar industry is developing faster than ever before, and has allowed 2023 to be their best year yet.
As we navigate the challenges of a changing climate, the solar sector stands as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable world.
