SKYBORN COMPLETES FOUNDATION INSTALLATION AT YUNLIN.

Industry News

Source - reNews - Skyborn completes foundation installation at Yunlin.

Skyborn Renewables subsidiary Yunneng Wind Power (Yunneng) has announced the successful installation of all 80 foundations at the 640 MW Yunlin offshore wind project in Taiwan.

This milestone keeps the project on track for full completion by the end of 2024.

With 80 foundations and 68 turbines now in place, including 52 already supplying clean electricity to the grid, the Yunlin offshore wind farm is making significant progress, according to Yunneng. Additionally, 56 out of the 69 inner array grids and all 12 export cables have been installed.

Skyborn Renewables CEO Patrick Lammers remarked, "Completing the foundation installation marks a crucial step towards finishing the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm project.

"This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work of our team and the collaborative spirit with our partners. We thank the Taiwanese government for its ongoing support. With the significant construction progress, successful financial restructuring, localization advancements, and a clear commitment to environmental responsibility, we demonstrate our commitment to Taiwan's clean energy transition."

According to Skyborn, the Yunlin OWF is the first offshore wind project to voluntarily exceed localization commitments, surpassing the required standards. Key localization initiatives include the use of 40 monopiles and 40 transition pieces produced in partnership with Taiwan's leading manufacturers, Formosa Heavy Industries, and CTCI Machinery.

The Yunlin OWF is situated in the Taiwan Strait, 8 to 17 km off Taiwan's west coast, in water depths ranging from 7 to 35 meters.

The 82-square-kilometer project area will feature 80 turbines, with electricity generated being fed into the Taiwanese power grid via two onshore substations near the townships of Taixi and Sihu in Yunlin County.

Electricity from the project will be supplied to Taiwan Power Co. under two 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs).

Supported by a robust financial consortium established in 2019, which includes both Taiwanese and international banks along with export credit agencies, the 640 MW Yunlin OWF will become Taiwan's second-largest offshore wind farm upon completion, generating enough clean energy to power over 600,000 Taiwanese households.
