Our Client is looking for an experienced Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to join a vibrant team tasked with executing LV & HV/EHV switching, isolation, earthing, issuing permits, switching for test, and managing safety documentation. This position involves working on construction and asset replacement projects within SSEN and private networks located in Bristol and Swansea. The selected individual will be key in ensuring power distribution reliability and will act as the primary electrical lead during emergencies and power restoration scenarios. This role is vital for maintaining the operational efficiency and safety of the electrical networks.
Core Responsibilities
• Plan power outages, create switching programs, and communicate with System/Local Control.
• De-energize, isolate, and earth high-voltage electrical systems; perform HV testing and fault detection; issue Safety Documentation, Permits to Work, and Switching for Test.
• Lead and foster a positive safety culture — develop Safety, Health, and Environment plans, assess Risk Assessment Method Statements, deliver inductions and toolbox talks, investigate incidents, conduct site safety audits, and ensure adherence to company and client guidelines.
• Provide comprehensive project management for smaller or less complex projects, including client interaction, tender/bid preparation, and financial oversight (valuations, invoicing, and meeting monthly goals).
• Manage and oversee Jointing and Fitting teams; offer technical guidance to the team and assist clients with engineering solutions.
• Mentor trainee SAPs, supervise HV operations training, maintain operational authorizations, and report on trainee development.
• Supervise and monitor all electrical construction and fault restoration activities on HV/LV networks up to 132kV.
Qualifications
• Authorized to perform switching operations from 11kV to 33kV.
• Possess a current DNO or equivalent Certificate of Authorization.
• Significant professional experience in a comparable role.
• Demonstrated experience in managing and supervising technical teams.
• Relevant academic qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Skills
• In-depth knowledge of DNO switchgear & related equipment.
• Excellent verbal & written communication abilities.
• Capability to lead a team and mentor junior employees.
• Strong grasp of current regulations, standards, and codes of practice.
• Competent in planning and carrying out complex electrical tasks.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Dedication to safety and operational excellence.
This role is mainly site-based, requiring travel within the region, and may involve weekend work and on-call duties on a rotating basis.
