Our client is looking for a Principal Designer to support the delivery of a major renewable energy project. This role is ideally based in Inverness with a hybrid working arrangement and will initially be for a duration of 6 months.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and familiarise with existing CDM procedures, particularly those related to the role of Principal Designer, and ensure compliance.
  • Take ownership of Principal Designer related procedures and documentation for the project portfolio.
  • Ensure all internal and external designers comply with their duties under CDM for the projects in the portfolio.
  • Chair regular Principal Designer meetings for the projects within the portfolio.
  • Act as the point of interface with all other Principal Designers on the project.
  • Assist the client in ensuring an acceptable temporary works design process.
  • Support the client in the development of Pre-Construction Information and review of the Construction Phase Plan.
  • Chair site-specific hazard workshops and work proactively to close actions.
  • Manage or assist with the management of design changes during the construction phase.
  • Lead the development and acceptance of the Health and Safety File for portfolio projects.
  • Ensure all relevant residual risks and information from the design phase are detailed in the Health and Safety File(s).
  • Provide monthly reports with KPIs.
  • Work closely with NEC site supervisors to ensure construction aligns with the accepted design.
  • Escalate and report any site issues to the CDM Manager for assistance.


About You

  • Proven experience as a Principal Designer in the construction or renewable energy sector.
  • Strong understanding of CDM regulations and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in chairing meetings and workshops.
