Our client is looking for a Grid Lead to support in the management and delivery of all grid-connection activities across a major renewable energy project. This role will focus on utility-scale solar PV, standalone BESS, and co-located PV-plus-BESS development, covering projects that connect at both distribution and transmission-voltage levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance on grid connections and support negotiations with DNOs regarding connection offer elements.
  • Define the contestable/non-contestable boundary for each project in liaison with the DNO and develop the ICP procurement strategy accordingly.
  • Prepare technical Scope of Works and Employer's Requirements documents for ICP tender packages, including HV/LV cable design and substation design.
  • Manage the full grid connection lifecycle for the project, including Gate 2 offer review and acceptance, ICP tendering and selection, design approval, G99 compliance studies, commissioning, and energisation activities.
  • Oversee DNO payment schedules, including acceptance fees, infrastructure charges, and contributions to demand management or curtailment agreements.
  • Coordinate and review power quality studies, protection coordination studies, harmonic assessments, load flow analyses, and fault level studies.
  • Ensure Grid Code compliance across the portfolio, managing G99 and G100 application processes and liaising with DNOs and NESO on compliance obligations.
  • Support the team in presenting grid programme status and strategic options to the senior leadership team.

About You

  • Direct experience in UK electricity grid connection management, with a proven track record of managing projects from connection application to energisation from 33kV up to 400kV.
  • Strong understanding of DNO/ICP processes and construction requirements for grid connections in the UK, including technical and commercial negotiation of connection offers.
  • Knowledge of the Gate 2 connection reform framework, including G2CM processes, CNDM milestone management, and interaction with NESO/Ofgem queue reform.
  • Experience in ICP tender management, design review, and oversight of construction-phase activities for contestable HV works.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects at various stages of development within a programme management framework.
