Our client is looking for a Control Systems Engineer to support the commissioning activities at a major renewable energy project in Leeds. This role will primarily involve on-site attendance to ensure the project meets its next key milestone of energisation. The initial contract is for 6 months, with a 12-month extension expected.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise within the Renewables Engineering Control Systems team, focusing on onshore renewable energy projects.
  • Lead and coordinate the Control System design and development, overseeing complete system integration from feasibility to project handover.
  • Drive value and innovation for the Controls Engineering team by identifying and implementing new technologies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines such as Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical for coordination of works.
  • Travel to site installations to support construction and commissioning activities.
  • Draft Employers Requirement Specifications for the Control System and assist the project team during the supplier selection process.
  • Review supplier documentation for compliance with technical standards.
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests for the Control System and SCADA equipment.
  • Design and configure PLC-based Control Systems, SCADA platforms, and associated network architectures.


About You

  • Good understanding of the development and construction of renewable energy projects.
  • Experience in the design of PLC-based control systems, including hardware/panel design and software logic/database configuration.
  • Demonstrable experience with typical renewables control and monitoring systems, including cable monitoring and protection systems.
  • Working knowledge of mission-critical communications systems such as DMR, TETRA, private LTE/5G/4G.
  • Experience in the design, commissioning, and operations of substations and installations.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet and serial-based communication protocols, such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC, ODBC, IEC 60870-5-104, and IEC61850.
  • Understanding of OT Cyber Security industry standards and current best practices such as IEC62443.
  • Previous experience with major WTG SCADA systems or other Renewable Energy Control Systems is desirable.
  • Innovative mindset and flexible approach, with excellent communication skills to engage effectively with stakeholders.
