About the Opportunity
Our client, a respected engineering consultancy specialising in power transmission and distribution, is seeking an experienced HV Substation Design Engineer to join their Transmission Design Team. This team delivers innovative design solutions for major UK clients, including National Grid, SSE, SPEN, and various DNOs.
This role offers the opportunity to lead complex substation design projects, acting as the primary technical contact and contributing to the development of critical infrastructure across the UK. The position is remote-first, with flexibility to travel as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design development of substation systems from concept through to delivery, covering primary, earthing, and secondary systems.
- Act as the technical lead and point of contact for design, project, and site engineers, bid teams, and clients.
- Collaborate with the Design Delivery Manager and senior engineers to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Provide technical assurance and ensure compliance with industry standards and client specifications.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience as a HV CDAE on National Grid projects.
- Degree (B.Eng or BSc) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or HND with relevant experience.
- Strong background in substation electrical design, with deep knowledge of National Grid specifications, British Standards, and other UK TNO/DNO design standards.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Power Transmission & Distribution sector.
- Ability to self-learn and apply engineering software relevant to substation design.
- Working knowledge of 2D CAD software (Autodesk products preferred).
