Head of Development

We are seeking a Head of Development, based in Spain, to lead the Business Development and Project Development teams across Spain. This senior leadership role is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing renewable energy projects, including solar PV, energy storage, and agrivoltaic solutions, within the assigned region.

The role oversees the full project portfolio, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and the successful delivery of high‑quality projects on time, within budget, and in full compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and develop the Business Development and Project Development teams, providing strategic direction, mentoring, and performance management
• Define and implement the regional project development strategy in line with the company’s growth and sustainability ambitions
• Lead grid access and connection strategy, managing relationships with TSOs and DSOs and securing grid capacity
• Oversee the project portfolio from early-stage prospecting and land acquisition through lease execution and handover to construction
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, ensuring effective alignment across internal functions (engineering, legal, finance, QHSE) and external stakeholders
• Develop and approve project plans, including budgets, schedules, resource allocation, and risk management frameworks
• Navigate complex permitting processes, ensuring projects secure all required environmental and administrative approvals at municipal and autonomous community levels
• Ensure regulatory compliance across all projects with applicable local, national, and international renewable energy standards
• Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, agricultural operators, local authorities, public institutions, and strategic partners
• Support the commercial team in defining route-to-market strategies, including evaluation of PPAs and merchant exposure
• Monitor project pipeline performance, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigation measures
• Provide regular reporting to senior management on project progress, portfolio performance, key risks, and improvement opportunities
• Drive process optimization and contribute to continuous improvement of project development methodologies

About You:

We are looking for a senior Head of Business and Project Development, with significant experience in renewable energy development and a proven track record of leading complex portfolios and multidisciplinary teams.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Business Development, or a related field and brings strong leadership, project management, and strategic capabilities. This role involves managing an established team, with scope for future growth as the regional portfolio expands.

The successful candidate is highly autonomous, confident in decision-making, and able to operate effectively within a fast-paced, evolving environment. You will bring strong experience in:

• Managing large-scale renewable energy projects
• Regulatory and permitting processes in Spain
• Contract negotiation and stakeholder engagement
• Budgeting, resource planning, and risk management
• Renewable technologies including solar, storage, agrivoltaics, and hybrid systems

A strong commitment to sustainability and environmental excellence is essential. Frequent travel within the region is expected for site visits, stakeholder engagement, and project oversight.
