Role Overview:
As the UK CTO, you will be accountable for the technical and technological integrity of the company’s hydrogen activities across the entire lifecycle—from business development and project engineering to construction, commissioning, operations, and optimisation. Your mission will be to embed technical excellence and industrial performance into every phase of the project pipeline, ensuring safe, cost-effective, and sustainable operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Corporate Leadership: Lead the technical organisation, aligning with corporate strategy and project priorities. Build and manage a high-performing team of engineers and technical specialists.
- Technology and Innovation: Define and maintain the hydrogen technology roadmap. Drive innovation and digitalisation across engineering, commissioning, and operations.
- Project & Engineering Oversight: Ensure the technical robustness of all projects, supervise engineering and construction phases, and provide technical leadership for procurement strategies.
- Operations & Maintenance: Implement O&M strategies for hydrogen assets, ensuring high levels of safety, availability, and reliability. Embed lifecycle asset management principles.
- Partnerships & External Engagement: Develop and manage technical partnerships, collaborate with internal entities, and represent the company in technical forums and industry associations.
- Compliance, Safety & Quality: Ensure compliance with UK legislation and industry standards. Promote continuous improvement in quality assurance and technical risk management.
Candidate Profile:
- Postgraduate qualification in engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 20 years of professional experience in large industrial or energy infrastructure projects, with substantial exposure to the chemical industry or industrial gases.
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale industrial facilities.
- Deep understanding of hydrogen technologies, especially electrolyser systems, gas compression, storage, and transport.
- Demonstrated experience in leading technical organisations and multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with operations and maintenance of large-scale chemical or energy assets.
- Prior CTO or executive-level leadership in an industrial or technology company is highly desirable.
- Exposure to renewable energy sectors is a plus.
- Knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks and industrial safety standards.
- Experience in multinational or matrixed organisations, particularly in UK-French environments.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Fluent in English and French (written and spoken).
