COMPLETION OF DOGGER BANK A DELAYED

INDUSTRY NEWS

SSE has announced that the commercial operations of the 1200MW Dogger Bank A offshore wind farm in the UK are now delayed until 2025. The developer, holding a 40% stake in the project, disclosed in a stock market announcement that construction continues on all three phases of the world's largest offshore wind farm located at Dogger Bank off the coast of England. Initially, the project was slated to go online in 2024.

Currently, all monopiles and transition pieces have been installed at Dogger Bank A, and significant progress has been made in laying the inter-array cables. However, the installation of turbines has been hindered by challenging weather conditions, limited vessel availability, and supply chain delays, according to SSE.

The original plan aimed to have 95 GE Haliade-X turbines installed by the second quarter of 2024. This recent update indicates a further deviation from the initial timeline established by the project partners, which include Equinor and Vargronn.

SSE stated: "The return of the installation vessel to the site in early May has allowed turbine installation to resume. Assuming favorable weather conditions continue, it is anticipated that installation activities will proceed without interruption throughout the summer months, with the project aiming for full commercial operations in the first half of 2025.

"With the HVDC Transmission system fully commissioned, it is expected that turbine commissioning and power export will occur concurrently with the installation. The delays mentioned are not anticipated to materially impact the project's returns."
