Our client has an exciting opportunity for a System Planning & Investment Manager to contribute to their strategic vision of facilitating the transition of the UK energy system to a low carbon future. Reporting to the Head of Transmission System Planning & Investment, you will lead a team of power system engineers undertaking power systems analysis, transmission system planning and technical assessments for renewable generation and low carbon technology connections to our network.
The key duties & responsibilities will be:
- Ownership of the system planning of the transmission system in the north of Scotland ensuring compliance with the relevant planning standards and industry codes, and that solutions meet customer requirements.
- Maintain and develop network development plans, ensuring coordination between connection projects and wider transmission reinforcement projects, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally to ensure efficient whole system outcomes.
- Develop robust investment cases and functional requirements specifications for projects and secure approvals for these following Transmission’s project governance framework.
- Develop your team and build capability and strong performance, providing clear direction in line with business priorities.
- Demonstrate strong leadership in relevant matters relating to the planning and development of a network for net-zero internally and externally.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Demonstrable leadership experience managing a team in a busy and dynamic environment, delivering quality and timely outcomes.
- Current knowledge of the electricity industry, the challenges on the journey to net-zero and knowledge of the relevant codes and standards, statutory and licence obligations
- Experience and understanding of the techno-economic assessment of projects. The ability to lead such assessments; to challenge assumptions; assess a broad range of options; and make recommendations on investment cases.
- Outstanding communication skills and the ability to build good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- A degree-level qualification or equivalent substantial experience in the electricity networks business.
