UK Wind Industry Celebrates 10 Years of Growth
Wind Energy Week 2025
24–28 June 2024 marks Wind Energy Week, celebrating a decade of remarkable growth in the UK’s wind energy sector. Organised by RenewableUK, the initiative highlights major milestones, including the doubling of UK wind generation capacity from 13.4GW in 2015 to over 30GW in 2025.
For the first time ever, wind power overtook gas in 2024, supplying 30% of the UK’s electricity—a clear sign of the UK’s accelerating shift to clean energy.
A newly released RenewableUK supply chain map reveals nearly 2,000 companies supporting the industry across 70+ UK parliamentary constituencies, from cable manufacturing to environmental surveying. The workforce has now grown to over 55,000 jobs, showcasing the sector’s economic impact.
Wind Energy Week 2024 also emphasises the industry's environmental and community benefits, with £550 million already delivered through community benefit funds (CBFs)—a figure projected to reach £150 million annually by 2030.
As the government unveils its new Industrial Strategy, Wind Energy Week is a pivotal moment to spotlight the wind industry’s role in delivering clean energy, economic growth, and energy security for the UK.
