Scotland’s Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes has called on floating offshore wind developers to stay committed to the country’s growing pipeline of projects, emphasising that the Scottish Government remains fully behind the sector despite current market pressures.
Speaking at the FOW 25 conference in Aberdeen, Forbes acknowledged that the industry is facing a challenging period marked by rising costs, supply chain constraints and a tougher investment climate. She described this as a “critical moment” for floating wind, but stressed that Scotland sees long term value in the technology and the role it will play in the country’s clean energy future.
Forbes reaffirmed Holyrood’s commitment to supporting developers across more than 30 GW of floating wind capacity currently in planning, early development and pre construction stages. She encouraged companies to stay focused on the long term opportunity, saying the government will support the sector “to the hilt” to help projects move forward.
Floating offshore wind remains central to Scotland’s net zero strategy, with the potential to deliver significant clean energy capacity, create skilled jobs and drive investment into ports, fabrication facilities and the wider supply chain.
