Osbit Opens New Offshore Wind Hub
New Wind Manufacturing Hub at Port of Blyth, Creating 33 Skilled Jobs
June 2025 – Offshore wind engineering firm Osbit, a Venterra Group company, has launched a major new manufacturing and service facility at the Port of Blyth, significantly boosting the UK’s offshore wind supply chain.
The 3,350-square metre facility at Wimbourne Quay marks a major milestone for the northeast’s clean energy sector. Designed to support the build and testing of offshore wind installation equipment, the site is four times larger than Osbit’s previous facility, with space for significantly more technical staff, tools, and client collaboration.
Key Highlights:
-
33 new skilled jobs created
-
Office and workshop space quadrupled
-
Heavy lift quay access for large-scale wind projects
-
Backed by UK Shared Prosperity Fund and regional councils
-
Part of Venterra Group’s expanding global wind portfolio
Osbit’s new hub is already operational, delivering first-of-kind engineering solutions including offshore access gangways, a floating cable testing rig, and advanced wind turbine installation tools. The facility includes upgraded offices, overhead cranes, and a client hosting space to support collaboration across Venterra’s renewable energy businesses.
The project was supported by the Business Growth Fund via the North East Combined Authority, Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council, and Sunderland City Council — showcasing the region’s strong alignment with the UK’s clean energy goals.
Supporting Regional Growth in Offshore Wind
This expansion at the Port of Blyth underscores the northeast's pivotal role in the UK’s transition to renewable energy — and highlights the importance of investing in skilled talent to deliver infrastructure at scale.
As Osbit doubles its workforce, there’s a growing demand for engineers, project managers, and offshore specialists across the wider supply chain — from Blyth to Barrow, where our team at LSP is already working with clients to meet rising recruitment needs.
