LARGEST BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM PROJECT IN EASTERN EUROPE ANNOUNCED IN UKRAINE

LSP Renewables commends the recent announcement by DTEK, which has secured UAH 3 billion (€67 million) in financing from a consortium of Ukrainian banks to construct one of the largest battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Eastern Europe. This landmark project represents a significant step forward in strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience and accelerating the transition to a modern, sustainable energy infrastructure.

The financing—led by Oschadbank in collaboration with PUMB and Ukrgasbank—will support the development of five energy storage installations with a combined capacity of 180MW. In total, six installations totaling 200MW are planned across various regions of Ukraine, with completion expected in 2025.

As a global leader in renewable energy recruitment and advisory, LSP Renewables recognises the strategic importance of this initiative. The project not only addresses immediate energy security challenges but also lays the groundwork for long-term economic and environmental sustainability in Ukraine.

DTEK’s CEO, Maxim Timchenko, emphasised the broader vision: “Our goal is not just to restore but to create modern and reliable energy that will become the foundation for the country’s economic development.” LSP Renewables echoes this sentiment, viewing the project as a model for how public-private collaboration can drive innovation and resilience in the energy sector.

The consortium’s commitment—particularly during wartime—demonstrates the critical role of financial institutions in enabling large-scale renewable infrastructure. As noted by representatives from Oschadbank, PUMB, and Ukrgasbank, this partnership reflects a shared dedication to Ukraine’s energy independence and economic recovery.

Once operational, the BESS complex will have the capacity to supply electricity to 600,000 households, marking a transformative moment in Ukraine’s energy landscape.

LSP Renewables is proud to support and spotlight such pioneering efforts, which align with our mission to connect talent and expertise with the world’s most impactful renewable energy projects.
