GB Energy Launches £1bn UK Supply Chain Programme
Great British Energy has unveiled a £1 billion Energy Engineered in the UK programme designed to build domestic manufacturing strength across the clean energy sector and support long term economic growth.
The initiative aims to mobilise both public and private investment to unlock critical capacity, create thousands of skilled jobs and help keep the UK at the forefront of renewable energy deployment.
£300m Supply Chain Fund Opens for Offshore Wind and Networks
As part of the programme, GBE has opened a £300 million Supply Chain Fund focused on offshore wind and electricity networks. The funding will target key bottlenecks that currently limit progress, including:
• Blade and turbine manufacturing
• Transmission cables
• Converter stations
• Broader network infrastructure
Strengthening these areas will increase domestic capability and support faster project delivery as the UK works toward its clean power ambitions.
A Core Pillar of the Modern Industrial Strategy
GBE confirmed that the Energy Engineered in the UK programme sits within the Government’s modern Industrial Strategy, a ten year plan to boost investment, improve competitiveness and support skilled employment across the country.
The organisation will work with strategic partners including the National Wealth Fund, the Scottish National Infrastructure Bank and The Crown Estate to unlock financing for large scale manufacturing projects.
GBE is also launching a Deepwater Wind Commercialisation Programme with FLOWEX to support industrial opportunities linked to next generation offshore wind technologies.
A Boost for Jobs and UK Capability
GBE chief executive Dan McGrail said the programme represents a significant step in strengthening British industry, driving innovation and ensuring that clean energy infrastructure is delivered within the UK. Energy minister Michael Shanks added that the fund will play a vital role in supporting jobs and growth across communities.
What This Means for the Renewable Energy Workforce
At LSP Renewables, we see this programme as a major opportunity for professionals across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, project development and operational roles. As investment increases and new facilities come online, demand for specialist talent will rise across all parts of the clean energy ecosystem.
