FULL POWER ACHIEVED AT MORAY WEST!
The Moray West Offshore Wind Farm, a flagship renewable energy project located approximately 20km off the coast of Buckie in the Moray Firth, Scotland, has officially reached full operational capacity.
On 24 April 2025, the wind farm was activated by the UK Secretary of State for Scotland, Ian Murray, marking a significant moment in the UK’s offshore wind expansion.
Powering Over 1.3 Million Homes
Moray West features 60 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 DD turbines, each capable of generating up to 14.7 MW. The project has a total installed capacity of 882MW - enough clean electricity to power more than 1.3 million homes, covering nearly half of all households in Scotland.
A Joint Venture Investment in Energy Security
Backed by Ocean Winds - a 50:50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE - the project represents a £2.5 billion investment in the UK’s clean energy future. It also supports:
- Local job creation
- Infrastructure upgrades in Buckie
- Enhanced port activity and vessel operations
The project underscores the UK’s commitment to net zero, energy security, and the creation of long-term green careers in the offshore wind sector.
What’s Next?
Ocean Winds is already developing Caledonia, a 2GW offshore wind project that will further solidify Scotland’s leadership in renewable energy innovation.
