Asia dominates global renewables growth in 2024
More than 70% of all renewable energy capacity added in 2024 was installed in Asia, according to new data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) — highlighting a growing regional divide in the global energy transition.
IRENA’s Renewable Energy Statistics 2025 report reveals that global renewables capacity rose by over 15% last year to reach 582GW. However, growth remains uneven. Asia led the charge, accounting for a staggering 71% of new installations, while Europe and North America followed at 12.3% and 7.8% respectively. Other regions — including Africa, Eurasia, Central America and the Caribbean — collectively represented just 2.8% of global additions.
Solar and wind dominated again in 2024, representing 97.5% of new capacity, with solar alone contributing 453GW.
While the renewable energy boom is transforming markets, IRENA warns that the current pace still falls short of the COP28 goal to triple global renewables by 2030. Reaching that target will require accelerated investment, stronger international partnerships, and region-specific support — particularly across emerging markets.
At LSP Renewables, we’re proud to support this growth through our extensive network across Asia, including our office in Taiwan and ongoing recruitment for project, engineering and offshore roles across the region. We're helping global clients build teams that deliver on ambitious clean energy targets — and we're just getting started.
