50HERTZ LAUNCHES EUROPE'S LARGEST SOLAR ENERGY PLANT

Source - reNews - 50Hertz inaugurates Europe's largest solar plant - Renewable Energy News

50Hertz has launched Europe's largest solar power plant, the 650MWp Witznitz Energy Park, located just south of Leipzig.

The Witznitz Energy Park was constructed over the past two years on a former lignite mining site spanning approximately 500 hectares, encompassing the municipalities of Neukieritzsch, Böhlen, and Rötha, near Hainer See.

This solar power plant is the first of its kind to inject electricity directly at extra-high voltage while simultaneously aiding in maintaining grid stability 24/7, according to the company. The Energy Park was developed in several stages and has been supplying electricity to the grid since December 2023, but only recently reached full operational capacity.

"By activating reactive power and integrating the solar plant into our congestion management, we're once again leading the way in maximizing the grid's ability to utilize electricity from renewable sources," said Stefan Kapferer, CEO of 50Hertz.
