Overview
Our client, a rapidly scaling renewable energy infrastructure investor and developer, is seeking an Investment Associate to join its UK team at an exciting stage of growth. Focused on the battery energy storage sector (BESS), the company is building a substantial portfolio of grid-scale storage assets across Great Britain.

With over 330MW of operational and under-construction capacity, and additional projects secured or under negotiation, the business is positioning itself as a major participant in the UK’s energy flexibility market.

Backed by a well-capitalised international renewable energy group with a multi-gigawatt global pipeline, the platform combines the agility of a fast-growing IPP with the financial strength and expertise of an established global investor.

This role offers a rare opportunity to work directly alongside senior leadership, gaining exposure to M&A transactions, project financing, and strategic investment decisions within one of the fastest-growing segments of the energy transition.

Role:
Our client is seeking an Investment Associate to support the commercial evaluation and investment analysis of its growing portfolio of battery storage assets. The successful candidate will play a key role in financial modelling, investment appraisal, and transaction support, working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams across technical, commercial and legal disciplines.

The role will involve active participation across the full project and investment lifecycle, including deal screening, due diligence, acquisitions and financing activities. The position offers significant exposure to strategic decision-making and the opportunity to contribute directly to the continued growth of a leading energy storage platform.

While prior experience in energy or battery storage is not essential, candidates must demonstrate strong financial and analytical capability and the ability to quickly develop a commercial understanding of energy infrastructure assets and market drivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a detailed understanding of the company’s investment appraisal processes and financial modelling frameworks.
  • Take ownership of financial models for existing portfolio assets and prospective investments, ensuring models adhere to best practice standards.
  • Build and maintain robust DCF models to assess the value and performance of battery storage projects.
  • Work collaboratively with internal technical, commercial and legal teams to define key modelling assumptions and scenarios.
  • Incorporate inputs and analysis from external advisors into financial models and investment evaluations.
  • Support the preparation of investment committee and board materials, including financial analysis and valuation outputs.
  • Contribute to the structuring, negotiation and execution of acquisition, financing and project agreements.
  • Participate in debt and equity financing processes at both project and platform level.
  • Support the origination and early-stage screening of new investment opportunities aligned with the company’s strategic mandate.
  • Manage elements of the due diligence process, including the selection and coordination of specialist advisors.
  • Analyse operational asset performance and model key value drivers such as degradation curves, efficiency rates and flexibility market revenues.
  • Work closely with wider group teams to support the organisation’s strategic position within the renewable energy and energy storage sectors.

Key Requirements:
  • Relevant professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CFA or CIMA.
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant professional experience, ideally within infrastructure, energy, investment, advisory or project finance environments.
  • Strong financial modelling, valuation and analytical skills, including experience building or managing complex DCF models.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities, including complex modelling structures and financial analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to support M&A processes, due diligence and transaction execution.

Candidate Profile
  • Strong commercially minded finance professional who is comfortable operating in a transaction-driven, fast-growing environment.
  • Ability to quickly understand new markets and asset classes.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Highly organised with the ability to synthesise large volumes of information into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Experience within the renewable energy, power markets or energy storage sectors would be advantageous
